Location: MD | it's not hot patches, he's just pretty itchy. What do you all use to help fur babies this time of year? either a good dog shampoo or something of the sort. I try to avoid over-bathing him since he does get smelly a little quicker with his long aussie hair, so I use dog show sheen more frequently (every two weeks.) |

Location: London Ontario | I second apple cider vinegar, you should look at your dog food, most dogs are allergic to chicken and grains.. |

Location: up to my waist in you know what | I too had the same issue with my dog. He was constantly itching and I mean all the time!! He couldn't run more than 3 steps without stopping to scratch himself. He even started giving himself scabs from scratching so much and breaking the skin. I thought maybe I was washing him to often, which was only about once every other week. Poor guy even had to wear a cone for awhile. :( I was at my wits end and I had tried ALOT of different things to try and help him. Someone who raises dogs told me about this shampoo and spray and said this helps with any skin issues he may come across with his dogs. I now use it about every 5 days or until he looks greasy enough (from all the petting) that I have to freshen him up...HUGE difference. Absolutely no scratching since the 2nd time I have bathed him. It's kind of pricey but alittle goes a long way! I swear by this stuff now, he is so much more comfortable!!!

Location: NE Texas | I got a bar of dog soap/shampoo from a friend whose aunt sells it - she makes it out of goats milk. I don't know what all she puts in there but my two dogs (Aussie and Carin Terrier) both have the healthiest looking coats this winter...and skin is not dry at all. Look around to see if anyone in your area makes it - a bar has lasted me 6 months so far at two baths a month (pay my step-daughter $20.00 to bathe them twice a month.. lol) |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | The two best ways to improve skin condition is by what they eat and what you use to bathe them. The Micro-tek is good stuff. Or use a non detergent based shampoo...there are many.
The healthy coat makes a big difference in skin/coat quality. I am a fan of that one for sure. |

I add fish oil (500 capsules at Costco for about $10 and I pierce the end open and drizzle over their grain free food. I also add a tbsp of coconut oil to their bowls each meal. |

We just had him allergy tested and switched him to a grain free diet about 3 months ago. After countless hours of looking at ingredients and what should work with him we found a grain free food that is compatible. We have been having a spout of strange weather. 60 degrees and beautiful one day, snow and 30 degrees the next. So quite honestly I feel like his diet is in order but his skin is struggling to keep up with the constant weather changes.
Will look into these options and get his skin feeling good! thx :) |
