Been thinking abot getting a new truck. We have a Dodge and no complaints just would like a few of the '"NEWER" things since the 2001 came out (heated seat, blue to0th, etc......)

Dodge Quad Cab Diesel 1 ton, single or dual rear wheels, preferable a 5.9L Cummins (2007 or older).  Best truck for pulling ever.

Write down Cummins, Powerstoke, and Duramax on strips of paper. Put in hat. Pull one out.

Seriously though, all of them will pull a gooseneck trailer fine. It then comes down to personal preference.

It's a personal preference. All truck years/makes/models have their pros and cons. It really comes down to what you decide you want to drive. You'll find die hards of each make. I personally love the 04.5-07 Chevy Duramax trucks.

Like everyone said each brand has it's followers, just like iPhone vs android haha. I second a duramax though. 2nd on my list would be a 5.9 cummins. But you won't get all the fancy new stuff you'd like with that engine. We got a new chevy 3500 dually duramax in November. I LOVE it! I've had all 3 brands and I must say chevy has been the most reliable and has never let me down with towing.

I think you're going to be more looking into trim levels.  I'm pretty sure that most all vehicles have bluetooth these days, but not heated seats (and don't forget about cooled seats... those are even nicer!), backup cameras, collision alert, wi-fi, rear dvd... etc.  I'd decided what engine you want and then get the nicest trim you can afford.

I guess I am old, but I do NOT want all those fancy electronic gadgets. Great when they work but when they don't there is he%% to pay. Right now the electronic 4WD in hubby's truck is stuck in 4WD and I have no doubt it will cost a fortune to fix. We had it in to the dealership a5 different times under warranty, where they claim that they had replaced every part of it ( the "service 4WD" light keeps coming on. 12 years later, with increasing trouble getting it in to and out of 4WD has lead to this.

My previous truck was loaded and had the keypad on the door. GREAT feature as I could leave it running with or without the dogs and get in without a key. Until less than 3 years later the battery died in the dang thing. Had to call a service truck out to get into in midwinter, running , with dogs inside and horses loaded on the trailer. Owner's manual said to take to dealership and have battery replaced. Several dealerships insisted that there was no battery, that it was directly wired. When I finally found one who said they"could" replace the battery, they recommended against it as once the uiti was opened it would not seal well, needed to buy a new one to the price of $300!!!

So I traded that 3 yr old, loaded truck in for the bare bones truck I have now. No carpeting, so I don't have to spend hours shampooing it and teasing dog hairs out of it, roll up windows, so the dogs can't step on the armrest and open/close lock me out...you get the picture. And I love it! The only things that I wish it had was a cassette/dvd/radio, fog lights and remote heated mirrors (the first two would be easy to do aftermarket, the mirrors, not so much.

I don't get the heated seats! By the time they warm up doesn't your butt warm it up just as well? Now AC seats would be a whole 'nother matter! LOL.

The price tag, the electronics and the fact that some are no longer offering a true stick shift are all of the reasons that I no longer want a new truck. Give me an old on that we can actually work on and fix ourselves instead of paying some "technician " ridiculous rates to to plug in and let the computer guess what is wrong. But that is just me I guess.

You and my dad sound exactly alike!!! My parents bought me a new truck when I turned sixteen (2005)..but it was bare bones.... I didn't even have a cassette/cd player!!!!  The truck only had two minor problems in the eight years/115,000 miles I put on it.  I bought one of the new loaded Chevrolet half tons when they first came out and I found a new love of driving!  Nothing has gone wrong with it, but those factory recalls are annoying (another thing my dad didn't agree with.  He suggested I let them get all the kinks out before I had one of my own.... He's a wise man, but I was tired of being a"deprived" driver! Lol!). It did suck, however, when we started looking into getting me a bigger truck for when we buy a bigger trailer.... I'd grown accustomed to all those features and we wound up buying an even nicer truck than my half ton is.  I'm sure that I'll become wiser someday when I've had those expensive repair bills.... But for now I'm going to be enjoying the ride home even if my horse runs up the fence and we hit all three barrels so hard that they stand themselves back up!!
