When I was home for Christmas, my parents gave me several bits that they had purchased when a tack store was closing.  I've been able to figure out what each of them were, except for this one.  The only mark on it says Hobbs, and the original price was $160 (still has the tag on it).  Not sure that I would ever use this bit, but would like some info on it.   Sorry about the picture size & quality!

Can everyone see the picture?  It shows up on my end, but someone mentioned they couldn't see it.

It's just a long shanked snaffle bit, looks to be nicely made. Why wouldn't you use it?

If it has shanks, it is not a snaffle. But I agree it looks to be a nice bit, with some tongue relief built it. I'd use it!

I have a bit that is similar to this one that I use, with shanks that are shorter.  Does anyone recognize Hobbs?  When I tried Google, it doesn't bring up much info.

Also, I am the opposite of a bit guru, so if you say use it....what situations/horse would YOU use this bit for?

Its probably a Mick Hobbs bit. It should have a number somewhere on it. Reining and working cow love them....you might be maybe to sale for a profit. To my knowledge Hobbs was more of a craftsman than a functional bit maker, and I have no opinion on that it is just talk I have heard from reining people who prefer more balance.

lol I knew that'd be coming. I think we're all taught differently depending on our backgrounds. To me the "snaffle" is the mouthpiece, just like a dogbone, correction, chain......

Mick Hobbs. From Oklahoma. Very good quality bits. Usually you see them with nickle silver of silver accents. This should be a really nice bit.

ETA: I second the shank snaffle. This has pretty long shanks in comparison to the purchase so it should have a fair amount of leverage.

That's what makes me think I probably wouldn't use it.  To me, the picture doesn't really show long the shanks seem to be in person.  It seems like it would be quite a bit of leverage for that mouthpiece.  It is a really nice quality bit though.
