I'm looking at a mare that has been on Regumate for a long time and the people can't tell me why they put her on it. They said the never had mares before and where worried about how she would act in heat so just put her on it.
I don't mind using it if its needed but I was thinking that I would want to take her off of it and see if she really needs it. Is there anything that I need to know about taking her off Regumate? Any suggestions?
Thank you

Gee I hope not. Mine came off cold turkey!!!  She was hauled with 2 studs owned by other people so she was on it. I don't have studs so I quit giving it to her when I bought her. The mare will come in heat right after you quit giving it to her. Some mares are fine when in heat. My current one gets real buddy sour when she is in. Some I hear become real witches!!  I have not had that experience. Yet..... I like mares so I'm sure I'll have a grumpy one some day. Of my 3 I can only tell a difference in the one i just bought. Well my oldie pushes and leans on stuff but she isn't grumpy.

Thanks, I prefer mares and of my other two one barely shows heat and the other squats and is a mess but still runs well and isn't hard to handle so I don't do anything for her.
Someone told me the first heat after coming off of it can be really bad?

We had my mare on it from about August till Dec.  She did have a pretty bad heat when we first stopped it, but has seemed ok since then.  I do have her on an herbal supplement to help balance her hormones.
