So BM does not make any "wide fits" or anything other than their standard saddle and my current BM feels/looks like it needs to be slightly wider where the pommel sits on my mare. The lady at BM suggested to order the barrel saddle, but with the trail pommel because other girls claimed it was slightly wider. Only problem is, is that it is  1 inch shorter than the barrel racing pommel. I want to order a new one, but do not know if that 1 inch will feel different or I won't be able to notice. Have any of you ordered it like this or have suggestions for a wider horse?

Yes, I have a trail pommel on newer BM and really like it. It is alittle wider and fits down on the horse better. I also have a reg. pommel on my other BM, and no I dont notice it at all. I really like the trail, and would order another that way.  Hope this helped!

Yes, the trail pommel fits wider, and yes, it rides differently. The swells aren't undercut and it's noticeably lower.  On some horses, that's a good thing.
