If you were going to have another baby shower, thrown by your friends or family, What would you recommend NOT happening at the shower? (For example: Games, wine, the Father to not be there and it just be women, etc.)

Also, What did you get as a gift you never used? (Furniture, Gadgets, clothes)
What did you wish you got more of? (Other than diapers)
And what do you wish you had gotten that you didn't recieve?

And just for fun, what was the weirdest gift you got for baby? Who was it from?

At my baby shower (one and only), we had it at a local restaurant that catered it. It sounds fancy, but it was actually WAY cheaper to do it that way than to buy/prep/clean up all the food. My mother-in-law hosted it. Due to having to reschedule it twice (high risk pregnancy, multiple times in the hospital for weeks at a time), only like ten of the forty people invited actually showed up. We had games and what not planned, but with so few people we just sat around and drank iced tea and had fun. I think games and organized fun make things awkward sometimes, especially for small groups like that. We did play Baby Shower Bingo though, which was fun and gave guests something to do while I opened gifts. You give everybody a blank BINGO card and they fill in the spaces with gifts that they think you will receive. As you open gifts, they mark off their charts, whoever gets BINGO first wins a prize. I liked that because it took some of the attention away from me while I opened gifts. I hate opening gifts in front of people.

Things I used the crap out of for both my sons: RockNPlay (get one for each floor of your house if you have a two-story), Lamaze toys (Captain Calamari, Sir Prancelot, Mortimor the Moose, Larry Lightning Bug) they are so cool and have so many different fun things on them, LANOLIN FOR YOUR NIPPLES, and a Jumperoo for when they are like 6ish months old

Things I could have done without: The 823975089475 mechanical rocker/shaker/swinger things (it is much more fun to just snuggle. And when you can't snuggle, my boys preferred the RockNPlay to anything else), Crib (I coslept/sleep with both boys. It is WAY easier when you are nursing. You just roll over and flop a boob out and everybody goes back to sleep. My first son moved to a crib when he was 8 months old), changing table - just use the floor or the couch.

Things I wish I had gotten: more clothing in BIG sizes. Babies only fit into newborn clothes for like 3 minutes. Yes they are super tiny and cute, but not very useful for very long. My first son was a bit early, so he wore NB size for like a month. My second son is GIANT and went straight into 0-3 months clothing. He is six months old and wearing 9-12 month clothing. He is a beast.

Babies require MUCH LESS stuff than marketing executives would have you believe.

I never understood the mechanical rockers and swings either...
Good stuff

My sister's favorite thing was the little rocking swing. She could put her boys in it and they would go to sleep or smile. She could finish her homework and watch them easy.

Also, Beadroux's Butt Paste. Buy it by the gallon, that stuff is WONDERFUL. Gets rid of diaper rash instantly, and if you have a mega chubby baby like I do right now - it also clears up the under-the-chin funk.

Ha! Maybe I should get her 5 gallons of it.
My friend does get butt hurt pretty easily anyway, she may could use it for herself LOL

That was a bit mean... but true!

I haven't read the other post so please forgive me if some of these have already been mentioned.

As far as the baby shower goes, I loved having my husband there! But he usually is the life of the party, so he kept us laughing during the games and what not. I would recommend cup cakes instead of a cake if you are planning on going that route.

Things I LOVE!!
Mamaroo swing (I just had a regular swing for my son, but bought the mamaroo before my daughter was born)
Baby K'Tan (I have tried EVERY kind of baby carrier and this by far is the best in my eyes)
Aden & Anais Swaddle & Dream blankets (THESE ARE AMAZING!!!!! Make sure and spend the money and get the bamboo)
Get a good stroller, I would take my babies down to the arena and I had to go mudding a few times....

I actually cant think of much that I didn't need....
But I wish I wouldn't have spent a ton of money on a....
nice diaper bag
diaper pail
baby monitor
TOO MANY CLOTHES (especially for girls!!)
Nursing cover (I usually pump if we go out....around the house I just whip the boob out wherever)

Things I loved (Two boys: 5 and 1)
- Backpack for a diaper bag. SO much easier than the shoulder bag.
- Buttpaste
- Mylicon (gas stuff) - don't need it long, but will need it.
- Tylenol and ibuprofen - after 6 months
- Teething tablets
- Snug-a-Monkey - did really well in it for the first 6 months (substituted for a bassinet). I also co-slept with both of mine.
- Diapers - all sizes. My oldest stayed in size 2 the longest when he was little. My youngest is in size 4 already.
- Clothes - in the bigger sizes. People like to give the little stuff because it's so cute, but they outgrow it so fast. We have stuff that neither of them wore.
- Loved the temporal and ear thermometers. Way better than under the tongue or up their hiney.
- Jogging stroller

What I didn't need:
My two didn't use the swing or jumper much.
- Diaper genie. Our trash gets emptied so often, the genie was a waste and a pain in the @$$ to change the bag.
- Bottle warmer - I nursed.
- Changing table - Both of mine used the flip-out foot rest on the couch or the floor.
- Pacifiers - mine didn't take them after 2 months.

Each baby is different. What mine didn't care for, other babies loved (like the pacifier).

I don't like playing games... they make me want to hide in a corner lol. I don't know if I am the weird one and everyone else is truly having a good time... or if they are just good at faking it! I actually try to find a way out of going to baby showers and just sending my gift because I dislike the games so much.

Our family has quite a few single men some of them being grandparents, uncles, etc. I feel bad for them that they are kind of left out because they don't have a wife to send with their gift. Sounds dumb but my grandpa was sad when he found out that the baby shower was only for women. Sooo we had a diaper party for the men. They really got into it... my dad showed up with a diaper on over his wranglers lol. Plus it was easier for them, some of them brought gifts but when they heard they could just bring diapers instead of trying to pick something out they were thrilled.

.

Also, What did you get as a gift you never used? (Furniture, Gadgets, clothes) Diaper Genie... waste of my time. My changing table (that I bought for some reason knowing I wouldn't use it) ended up being a nice little shelf to store things on lol.

What did you wish you got more of? (Other than diapers)Clothes in larger sizes. A lot of her clothes she only wore once because she grew out of them so fast. Almost all of the clothes we got were 0-3 months.

And what do you wish you had gotten that you didn't recieve? When my son was little he had a mobile that had a remote control. So if it stopped too soon I could just push the button instead of getting up and making all the noise winding it. We didn't use my daughter's (no remote), you barely got out of the bedroom before it would stop and she would start crying.

And just for fun, what was the weirdest gift you got for baby? Who was it from?

lol It is funny how people differ. I could really care less about a stroller, it is a pain for me and my daughter doesn't care for it either. My kids loved their swings, and especially the chair that when they kick it bounces.
Bottle warmer, even when I was making bottles never got used. Wipe warmer vanished lol my husband hated it, the wipes usually got cold before they got from the warmer to the butt anyway.
Mine wanted pacifiers, my son after a while only put one in his mouth if he ran across it. That is about the time we got rid of them. My daughter is 11 months and for about the last 4 months or so she only wants it when she is tired. So one stays in her crib and the other in her carseat. You know if she comes up to you with a pacifier in her mouth she got it out of her carseat and she wants to go to sleep.

All of these are great ideas.
I didn't even think of the poor guys who aren't married!! Almost made me cry!
I had originally asked all of this for my friend and for me to know what the heck to get her.... Now i'm thinking I'll use it for my own shower one day LOL

My little brother did this a lot with Blankie in tow. My sister didn't want a blanket, didn't take a pacifier, and would refuse to go to sleep with a mobile on... My brother woke up if there wasn't music playing in his room.

Complete opposites!
