New to Lasix
Okay just bought a gelding that requires lasix. Never had one have this problem so have literally no idea about anything.
vet said 5cc 3 hours out from running with no water...
ive had him for a little over 3 weeks and i can work him and make a little pass on him at home and he doesn't bleed or breath funny.
I've never actually seen him bleed, trainer that had him for over a year says he needs it during runs though.
so can anyone tell me anything, give advice, other bleeder products, how you maintain your bleeders.
I've read on some the forms to keep them hydrated before you give the lasix and during
(eletrolyte paste??
)
I've been reading up a lot on lasix and a lot of people don't have good things to say but i don't want to risk him bleeding out and missing some of the big rodeos this year.
really i just want to know everyone route when they go somewhere and how they do everything.
thanks!!! :
)
also, does everyone give it in the vein or muscle?

First question is did the sellers vet say to give 5cc or your vet? Did you ask the sellers how much they were giving him? And I give mine IV.

Each horse is going to have it's own requirements and protocols. I would definitely want to know what the previous owner/trainer was giving and how they were administering. I person have a couple of Lasix users and I do give all of mine IV.

pervious owner never ran him so she has no idea really how much to give, and my vet is the one who said to give 5cc. i planned to just kinda play with it a little and start at a lower dose. and i tired to contact old trainer but no reply yet.

First thing is getting in touch with trainer and finding out what their protocol was for running this horse. Not all horses need 5cc of lasix. We don't even run our race horses on that much.
