My suggestion is to get off BHW, get a job somewhere then you can save up and get a trailer like you want. There are plenty of places that hire high school students. When summer gets here you can probably work 40 hours a week.

Honestly I'm having a really hard time believing that your horse doesn't fit in a standard two horse trailer. I have a friend from back in Texas that puts her 17.2hh TB gelding in a two horse trailer.. he fits. Maybe it isn't something you want, but appreciate what you have. It isn't easy to support a family, pay bills, and be able to afford the luxury of horses and the expenses that come with them. You are truly fortunate that you have a horse, and a trailer, and a way to haul to barrel races. If you're absolutely dead set that you need another trailer, get a job or find a way to make some money so you can afford one that you want.

Honestly....you should be very grateful. I worked my butt off through high school, bought/paid for everything for my horses including board/feed/farrier/vet and even paid for my own horse. My parents were too poor to buy me anything, I didn't get my first trailer until I was 18 years old...and I paid for it. It was a junky old gooseneck stock trailer but it got me where I needed to go. I hope you one day learn to appreciate what your parents are doing for you, lord knows I would have at your age.

In my trailer, the divider didn't come out, but the back part came undone & the front was hinged, and I was able to tie it the side of the trailer. Not sure how yours is made, but it worked on mine.

People who are saying this child should suck it up, would you haul your horse in it from her description?

I sure wouldn't

The trailer caught on fire, there is a hole in the floor boards, this is a big risk as those floor boards could give out and the horse could be dragged to death, it does happen.

Please ask to take the trailer to a trailer repair place and have a new floor installed.

Also she says the back door is bulging, after a fire the integrity of the metal and welds has been damaged, and with excess stress on the door by the horse leaning could pop the welds and the back door could come flying off and the horse could step out while the trailer is moving.

I would also get a qualified professional to look over the entire trailer, welds, and support beams.

To the op if your dad is a jack of all trades, maybe explain your concerns with the rationale, and suggest you both fix it together. This could be a bonding experience for you. During this time you can cut out the middle piece so the horse has more room.

Good luck

She said that it caught on fire because of grinder sparks - it wasn't a raging inferno.

And no, I wouldn't haul my horse in an unsafe trailer. I also wouldn't be on the internet complaining that my parents wouldn't buy me a new one. I would either A: save up and buy a new one B: try to get rides with friends or C: NOT haul anywhere. Horses and ALL their accessories are a LUXURY. You can survive with a horse without a trailer, I have done it in the past. I got rides with friends when I could and when I couldn't, I just didn't go. Did I get online and throw my sucker in the dirt and complain about how SOMEBODY ELSE wouldn't buy me one? Absolutely not.

I think a lot of you are overreacting. She's expressed her frustration, and her gratefulness in this post. She hasn't talked back with attitude.

To the OP, I would go to your parents and ask them if they would be willing to upgrade if you were to pitch in the difference in cost. This will mean getting a job, and skipping some jackpots until you get a new one. It may be difficult to get a job without having your license, but you might have to make do in the meantime.

At 51, I am thankful I had a stubborn parent....too stubborn to give up on me. I pulled a 2 horse Hale trailer with a 4 cylinder, 3 speed CJ5 Jeep well into college. It would only go 40 MPH, but it got us there. When I wanted a nicer rig (15 year old truck and a stock trailer) I worked at a restaurant until 1:00 AM while going to college in order to pay for it.
