I have noticed here that few people say filly colt-thankful for that! Colt denotes a male foal so, if you want to get real technical, you shouldn't even say stud colt.
I see that all the time on Craigslist. When you see what they have for sale you understand. Figure this one out???? 11 year old barrel horse for sale runs 1D times. Don't have papers but can get them. $12,500. Just where are the papers? Time to move on to the next ad. |

I have found this to be either a regional, or generational thing. I've heard a ton of auctioneers at production sales announcing them as either filly colts, or horse colts. I wasn't raised to believe that it is correct, but... |

Please excuse, my tablet changes stuff. I have yet to type the word mare that it has changed it to made. I go back and proof it and I still does its own thing. You should see the stuff I post on facebook. Never know what it will do when I hit submit |

They may have been born in April but they turned 2 on January 1st. PERIOD. That is accurate. However, I don't turn one year older at the first of the year and I may not even claim I am one year older on my actual birthday. I pass that vice to any horse I own. We don't age before our time and sometimes we don't tell the truth about that. LOL

| Around here we actually base some human things on your age at the first of the year. I can imagine the total chaos it would be if youth had to stop running in their event the day they turned 18. What a record keeping nightmare that would be.
If you don't have registered horses I guess it really does matter at all. It cuts down on confusion. A horse does not run in two year old races until its actual birthday then start running in races for three year olds. Besides it is an association rule and just like saying a horse is out of some stallion or you have a filly colt, it's incorrect terminology. Let's encage our higher level thinking skills. |

If the horse is a weanling then yes you are correct but most consider horses "colts" even after they are of age to be gelded. So if you say stud-colt I take it as a young male horse still intact. |

If the horse is a weanling then yes you are correct but most consider horses "colts" even after they are of age to be gelded. So if you say stud-colt I take it as a young male horse still intact.
I consider any horse under 5 a colt because thats just what we call the babies at futurities and really to me any horse thats not finished in the barn I'll still refer to as a colt. |

Location: oklahoma | I think the "new" affliction to hit America is run sentences and you can't figure out what the ad is suppose to say because there's no punctuation the sale ad runs on in its description makes you read it several times to figure out what someone is tring to say when a simple period or comma would clarify I usually give up after the second read through because if they don't care enough or seem educated enough about what they're tring to sell why should I waste my time deciphering |
