So I find out 3/26 if my maiden mare took this time. I tried last year to breed her to him and she didn't get bred. I took her to get checked on 3/10 and she had a 41 follicle vet said we did it just right, we got semen shipped (vet said semen looked great) and she was bred on Tuesday 3/10 she ovulated that night but on Wednesday vet said she had a little fluid so he lavaged sp? her. I picked her up on THursday. So is fluid bad?? The same thing happened last year is it because she is a maiden mare? I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Have you had a mare get fluid after being bred and she got pregnant? Its been a long time since I did the breeding thing and never with a maiden mare. Advice appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats on picking that stallion!! I'm getting my good mare bred to Firewater Canyon this year but definately Streaking to Fame next year. I don't think the fluid is too bad. I've had mares take with fluid before so I wouldn't worry that much. The mares that proved to be hard to breed the first time usually are turned out with a stud the first year and then seem to just take the first time after they have the first foal. I have no idea why but I wish you the best of luck!!!

Did you culture her?

Fluid isn't great but you lavage and try your best to get it to go away.

Usually when they have fluid they are either dirty, or they are reacting to the semen.

Two years ago when I bred one of mine, she had fluid after breeding, ended up dirty, she didn't take that try and we cleaned her out. Second try, she was clean, didn't retain fluid, and kept the pregnancy full term.

Some mares just have problems with delayed uterine clearance, no matter if they are AI bred or live covered.
Doesn't always mean infection, but if let go, it can lead to infection.
We treat all of ours with oxytocin, and lavage if needed, if they have fluid post breeding.
Sometimes the oxytocin alone will take care of it.

She was clean and vet said he gave her oxytocin so sounds like he is on top of it. Is this typical for a maiden mare? I keep telling her she is supposed to get pregnant lol

I would say its not out of the ordinary. Your vet's doing what he's supposed to and hopefully her uterus will calm down LOL

I've had it happen to maiden mares, it's actually really common in older broodmares.
Sounds like the vet's got it under control though, hoping you get good news at the preg check!

Hubby bought me a breeding to Streaker back in 2014 for my bday....

My mare is 8yo and this will be her first time, taking her to the vet on Monday....

We are first timers at breeding, so we are all very excited for our 2016 baby....
