It bothers me when I am looking to buy a trophy saddle and the owner takes off the lettered fenders and expects me to buy new ones to the match. Other than that I don't mind buying a trophy saddle.

I would have no problem owning one if it was what I needed. I think it would be apparent that I'm not fast enough to win anything unless the fender said Turtle Race Champion on it. Also, the words are covered up when you're riding.

^^^^ Me too! LOL...I have two nice trophy saddles that are worth it. One is one of the Crown C's that someone else was talking about. Another is a Triple Creek. Both are great to ride in and were a steal price wise. Everyone around here knows I don't know what I'm doing when barrel racing (yet) but a few of the kids have asked if I won the saddles. LOL

Not weird, my husband made some new fenders for a girl who bought a trophy saddle with writing  on the fenders.

I go back & forth on a regular basis about selling the most expensive trophy saddle I've won. It's a Cactus and I like it but I don't LOVE it. The disgusting part is that I custom ordered it specifically to fit Clifford and it isn't even close to fitting him, plus doesn't fit my other horses perfectly either. I would love to sell it and get something that fit one of my horses but know I wouldn't get even close to $1200 out of it. I could pull the fenders and put them on the saddle that does fit Cliff, but the Cactus saddle would still say "Bonus Race Finals" on the jockeys. I've thought about seeing if the fenders would fit Cliff's non-trophy saddle but haven't gotten that energetic yet.

Personally I don't care if someone is using a trophy saddle they didn't win and I've seen some I'd like to own no matter what the lettering says.

I think that if it fits you and your horse, use it. Besides, you can buy new fenders.

Slightly OT but why do they bother to give trophy saddles when saddles really need to be fitted to horse and rider? What's the point of have a 14.5" winning saddle when the winner might need a 15.5 or a 13"; not to mention what will fit the horse best. Why not just give gift certificates towards the purchase of a saddle or tack of choice? The only time I've found a trophy saddle close to the size I want is one that say's rodeo princess - at age 60 I don't think anyone would believe I won that!

More and more associations are doing that now....However, at most of the big barrel events, rodeos, finals, etc, the saddles (and awards) are sponsored by companies that want win pictures and recognition of their donation when the results are published.

I practically stole my Tod Slone as it was a trophy saddle. Heck yes, I'd buy another. I don't ride my trophy saddle that I won, it's in the living room, but I'll darn sure ride somebody else's!

I bought someone's trophy saddle about 2 years ago. Only sat in a couple of times, got it at good price, fit her and her horse and it is holding up very nicely. Would not hesitate to buy another one.

I like this policy of gift certificates, but will say that it'd be nice if when you ordered the saddle custom, it actually fit the horse it was supposed to.  My suggestion after Clifford won one at a big race was to have a dealer for the saddle company there to measure your horse so the saddle would be perfect. I would have stayed another 30 minutes to get him fitted for his trophy saddle, but instead I'm using "his" saddle on Streak.

It doesn't bother me...it was the only way I could afford a Double J, but it fits both of my horses and fits me as well. But I figure while your riding it you don't see the writing.

I bought a super nice 16 inch cactus trophy barrel saddle a few months back. I called cactus with the serial number and found out that it had the upgraded tree ect.....looks identical to the charmayne james series saddles and is on the same tree. super nice tooling and a very neat seat. I picked it up for about 1/2 the price they normally go for.
