What do you use as a base for your stalls? Possibly over concrete?

My stalls have a compacted gravel base with the thick rubber mats on top.

IMHO, I'd stay away from concrete. It's a durable product, but hard on the legs.

We just built a barn and my husband put chip rock down over the building pad dirt.  I was a little hesitant about it at first but I think it's going to work out good and allow everything to drain better. I think I will put thick mats down but leave the small rock in the alley way.  It's like kitty litter but a little larger.

Just read an article today about this. Screenings were top in most categories. Only concrete and asphalt scored higher. The alleyways the rubber interlocks out scored all..

We used the quarter down fine gravels wet them and tamped them so they would hold together and be level. Thick rubber mats over them!

We have crushed limestone that we leveled, wet and tampted. Then rubber mats and shavings on top.
