Has anyone used pool noodles as ground poles? Right now I have a pole bending set that I'm using, but I want a lot more poles to have walk overs, trot overs and lope overs. Not wanting to spend hundreds on PVC pipe, so I was thinking I could buy noodles and zip tie them to brick pieces to weigh them down and stay in place..... What does everyone use for their "poles" besides PVC??

Landscape timbers

I'm not a fan of pvc for ground poles, I've had them get kicked right, roll out in front, and them tripped over worse or even saw a friends horse step right through one.

Landscape timbers are cheap, flat on 2 sides so they don't roll very easily, and I think they provide a more solid "thunk" when hit to encourage the horse to be more careful with his feet next time.

Landscaping timbers. I want it to be uncomfortable if they don't pick up their feet.  Plus, those hold up really well when they get stepped on.

We do the same, landscaping timbers. We get them from Tractor Supply.

I use landscaping timbers too. I dont know how much they cost, we had a bunch of them just laying around not being used when I was a kid so I "borrowed" them for my arena work.

About what do they run at TSC? Lowe's has them for $3.97 and Home Depot has the for $1.99 I think? I just don't have a Home Depot close by.

I just use wood poles. Like jump poles. That's the only thing I've ever seen used as ground poles...

Β Ouch! Β I think for as many as I want I better get to Home Depot! lolΒ

How many do you guys usually use? Right now I have six set up (3'6" apart) for trot overs, but I would like to double that length and have atleast a 40' span to work over. Walkover don't have to be as dramatic, but I wonder how much of a circle I should have him lope over??.

ETA: the HD price is a sale price good until 4/19
