I just read the headlines

I just started rereading C. S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity". Any thoughts about this author and his writings? I have read through book one and starting book 2. I remember loving this book but it was a long time ago that I read it. All the recent posts about belief motivated me to read this book again. I am going to read some of his other stuff and would love to hear anything ya'll have to say.

C. S. Lewis is one of my very favorite authors, fiction or theology. He's really interesting. Not everything he says is 100% sound (but then who is perfect among us?) but he puts things so well that most people can understand. He is the first author that got me thinking deeply about my faith.

Love C. S. Lewis, both his theological writings and his fiction. I've read the entire Chronicles of Narnia when I was younger, and enjoyed, although I think it had a more theological meaning just sitting in the background, however most young people would not pick up on that, and I didn't until I was older. I'd have to read them again. But he has some very good and helpful ideas.

Another writing we much enjoy at our house is Oswald Chambers, his most common book is My Utmost For His Highest, which is a daily devotional book. He might be someone to look into if you haven't read or heard of him already.

I am wanting to make some changes and the one area I know I need to do so is my spiritual life. You are right about how he can really simplify and I,too, believe he is good place for me to start. The priests used to tell us that we didn't need to read the bible because the liturgy cycled through it every so many years and that because it could easily be misunderstood and misused, we were better off just listening to them. For the most part I would agree. But I want more than that now.

I'm not very good at just being told what to believe . . .

Yeah me either, but it sure was an easy excuse to be lazy. I make no excuses for my disinterest, but that no longer works for me. I am finally ready to know Jesus for myself. I would like to hear how people have come back to Him.
