I'm not a district director, but I feel like there are so many fees that the cost to run there isn't worth the drive!! Especially if there is another jackpot within the same distance. It will cost me less to go to a jackpot verses the NBHA. At the moment I cannot justify a membership til I make plans to go to more NBHA's.

I have never been able to figure out how they do the payout at our NBHA.  I can add and my husband is a walking calculator.  Makes no sense at all to me.  And, if you ask, you are a BA.

From what I see on NBHA's payout page is a minimum of 80% of all entry fees must go to the jackpot (Exception:  If a show ofers at least $1,000 added money, a minumum of 70% of all entry fees myst go to the jackpot.)  So how is it that it can be worked around?

Because not all people running the show are honest.

You have to look at the fine print. In a district I used to belong to, you had X amount entry fee. (I forgot the exact numbers, it's been a while since I figured it out
out of what you paid as "entry fees" a certain amount went for state and national fees.  There were some other items taken out also. All total, you were running for aprox 60% of what you thought was your entry fees. If you did the math, took out the hidden fees, yes you were running for what they posted.

I am a district director here in NC and from what I've gathered, we don't charge no where near the fees that other places do. We do not have arena fees, haul in fees, etc. Maybe the occassional timer fee IF there is a ton of added money, but that is usually only at 2-3 day shows.

The sanction fee for NBHA is $30 a show...that does not come out of entry fees, etc. The producer pays that (or the district is they are the producer)

In my district, fees for the Open class are always $25 (unless over $500 added to that class, in which they go up to $30). Of that $25, $4 comes out for NBHA fees ($1 goes to state NBHA and $3 goes to our district awards fund). We then pay back 80% of that $21 left. The 20% goes to the producer. So, all in all, of the total entry fee, we pay back 67.2% of the pot. The majority of the state does it the same way.

As someone else already mentioned, the only way to pay back 70% is when there is $1,000 added or more to the entire show. The state and district fees vary, but I think we have to do a minimum of $1 to both.

What gets me about people that run NBHA is that they think the NBHA main office gets all this tons of money, when in reality, they only get your membership fees (and whatever entry fees you pay at supershows, etc). They don't get anything from everyday entry fees.

We pay similar to the above post except we pay $30 Open fees.  Out of that $6 comes out for the 20% and $2 comes out for State and District Award fee plus a $5 arena fee so we run at 60% or $18.  Some do it a little different because they are cosanctioned with another association and their rules state your fees other than the 20% need to be listed separately.  So then it is advertised with $23 entry fee, $2 awards fee and $5 arena fee.  It still totals $30 fees.  So they are either advertised as $30 Open fees or $23 Open fees plus $7 administration fees.

This is off of a FL district's website as voted on by their members...note 70% payout is allowed by the NBHA but doesn't have to be on $1,000 or more added barrel races, that's just how this particular district chooses to do it...also each district decides for themselves what goes towards awards or paying barrel setters etc....but this gives you an idea of how you can't figure it off of what you paid at the entry desk...you have to know how much of your entry is actually going into the payout.

New entry fee scale as voted on by members:$100.00 to $900.00 added money - $30.00 entry fee, $20.00 to (80%) payout, $7.00 to awards, $2.00 to club expenses, $1.00 to State Championship Show. $1,000.00 - $1,400.00 added - $35.00 Entry Fee $25.00 to (70%) payout, $7.00 to awards, $2.00 to club expenses. $1.00 to State Championship Show. $1,500.00 and up added - $40.00 entry fee $30.00 to (70%) payout, $7.00 to awards, $2.00 to club expenses, $1.00 to State Championship Show.
