Quick question on saddles being to big. My horse chiro keeps telling me that my saddle is too wide for my horse and its causing her to have adjustment issues. I think the saddle fits correctly and I love the saddle however I was curious to see what others thought about this and if anyone has had the same issue.

Where is the horse needing to be adjusted

Hocks, stifles, pain issues can cause a horse to be needing chiro adjustment more then not

IF the saddle is too wide, have you tried shims? I have to shim my gelding because even a 7" gullet is wide for him lol

It shows up everytime she is adjusted and I'm told that it's the saddle. I went through a period where I tried some other saddles and it was just not a good fit. This is a really nice saddle and I think it fits her well. She runs in the 1D and I've had her checked with my vet and she has found no problems either. It's only when I have her adjusted that this comes up soI was just curious if anyone has ever been told something like this.

Is there even pressure under the saddle when you feel?

Even sweat marks?

Any ruffled hair?

Is she cinchy?

Also what do her front feet look like, any contraction?

Just because she is running in the 1d doesn't mean she isn't sore, so,e horses just have a lot of heart.

yep....My saddle sored up my geldings back pretty badly. He was hard to find a saddle to fit him because he was either too narrow or too wide.

I'm not saying because she is running in the 1D she is not hurting. I'm saying that the only time soreness is found is when I have the chiro check her and it's always the saddle. My vet never finds this soreness and no other signs that anything is wrong. I'm simply asking has anyone ever heard of the saddle being to big or wide to cause chiro issues.

I also tried several different brands and was told the same thing.

A saddle being too wide or too narrow can cause a horse pain, when they are in pain they will compensate and yes can become misaligned.

But other things can cause a horse to become sore

This is why it is important to you to investigate,

As I said before when you feel under the saddle is there even pressure all the way around

Are the sweat marks even

Any ruffled hair

Is she cinchy/cold backed

Do you know how to check to see if a saddle fits?

Also what pad are you using?

And have you been adjusted after your horse, as you may be throwing her out
