Actually this holiday has nothing to do with active duty or veterans. It always makes me uncomfortable when people thank me on Memorial Day. It's the one day a year meant for the ones who never made it home. The fallen. The ones we lost in combat and in training.
Memorial Day is NOT about the living. It's to honor the fallen. |

What a shame that someone would "thank you" on Memorial Day for your service......."Most" people see it as a day to honor ALL servicemen....alive or dead....I know that my son, who just retired last year, certainly wouldn't have felt as you do.....

They want to fight and help but will have no backup from our military and can't even obtain weapons until they get there. God forbid they're captured but they're fully aware of the risks. |

Memorial Day is for the ones we lost. Not the ones who are still here. It's the one day set aside to honor the ones who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
If that offends you, oh well.
Thanks but no thanks. Not a day to thank veterans or active duty. A day to remember the ones you cant thank in person anymore.
If you want to show thanks on Memorial Day, thank a Gold Star family.

Location: Willows, CA | I understand what the day is for. I just feel that it is also a nice reminder to thank those who have or are serving on our behalf. People are not doing enough of that. Not just an extra day to go to the lake. I didn't intend to do anything more than that. |

Please don't be offended if we non-military thank you for your service on the wrong day---take it in the manner it was meant. Like Winn said, we don't do it enough these days. |
