I hate it for you. I didn't have them till I had my daughter. I took the topamax and would use the imitrex when needed. I did have the tingling in my feet some but it wasn't bad the imitrex was the worse one of the two for me. I have been able to get off them now and just use Xanax and phenergan along with a muscle relaxer when I start getting one. I can always tell when they start because the left side of my face will go numb and my left eye lid will droop so I know to start taking my meds. I just seen a new cardiologist last week and I just so happen to be having the start of one and my heart rate was in the 130s he started me on metoprolol and said that may help me with my headaches along with my BP and heart rate.
I believe mine started after I had my daughter because of all the hormones. I only have one ovary and my hormones went crazy after I had her. Plus she was a very colicky baby and cried a lot. Also about that time my dad had a massive heart attack an was diagnosed with cancer. Finally about 2 and half years later I was able to get off the topamax. The migraines went from 3-4 a month to maybe 1 every couple of months I still have headaches some but I can deal with that.

I have been dealing with true migraines since I was too young to be able to swallow pills. No one understands what a migraine headache is like unless they experience it. I spent my entire Saturday in bed with one
(excluding the time spent throwing up
). You know you have one when the numbers glowing on your clock is more than your eyes can handle. Topomax allowed me to have a normal life. I've missed out on a lot because my head hurt too bad to function. My only side effectd were that my hands would tingle and cokes tasted flat, BUT I wasn't planning my life around trying to prevent a headache. I honestly wake up everyday and begin trying not to have one. I have had to go off for having my baby and nursing.. Not being able to take anything is absolutely horrific. I get in the shower and blast the water as hot ad it will go on my face for relief. I will never do anything again that I cannot take topomax.

Anyone tried Botox? I am on 4th round and it seems to reduce the number of headaches that lead to the full blow migraine.
May you all have dark sound proof rooms in your migraine travels. And never run out of the meds.

I am with you Esther. If you ever wake up without a headache it is a huge shocker. Migraine cannot be explained unless you have them.
The family does suffer.

It seems like it works better for the ones with serious migraines. Maybe the side effects don't effect those with the debilitating migraines AS MUCH as say someone with just bad headaches sometimes. Maybe because we really don't care what happens as long as we aren't hugging a toilet and hoping for death? lol.
Maybe it's the way the brains are wired when it comes to the knock down drag out headaches. I know I would almost always count on one after a long day at a show. Next morning I would have my med cocktail ready to roll first thing and just climb back into bed and hope it didn't escalate before the meds kicked in. I've been told it's because of my thick heavy hair. My TMJ. My degenerative discs in my neck. Stress. Dehydration. Hormones. Honesty anything can trigger what I call a headache
(normal people migraine
). Bad smell for too long. My neck hurting for too long. Being in the sun too long. Crying hard. Holding back from crying. Staying up too late. Sleeping in too late. That time of the month. Stress. Lack of sleep. Too much sleep. Being hungry for too long. I mean literally anything could be a trigger. That's why I just gave up trying to keep track. There were just too many reasons why.
I know the Topamax is suppose to literally dumb down your brain. It's an anti seizure med so it reduces excitability. I know it has a long list of side effects but it seems like the ones with the worst kind of headaches benefitted the most from taking it.
Thanks everyone! Feel free to keep sharing your experiences.

I haven't had a migraine like the ones you are describing since I got divorced. My life was definitely not more stressful than it is now, but I guess it's just a different type of stress. I had awful migraines that would keep me in bed all day from the time I was 12 years old until I was 25 and started living my own life. Complete quiet and darkness felt loud and painful when I was having one...and I couldn't focus enough to get from one room to another.
The lifestyle changes that I've made since the divorce are probably contributors as well. My diet has greatly improved, as well as my fitness level.
