Hello! I have recently purchased a new mare and am struggling a bit with saddle/pad fit. My saddle is a Lynn Mckenzie Special. I am currently using a 1/2 inch impact gel contoured pad with it, and I am getting dry spots (See pic). This mare came to me with the small white patches on either side of her withers so I am assuming she had some poorly fitted saddles on in the past, and now I am afraid my setup is pinching her shoulders. I bought a best ever pad to try with it.... and it wasn't the best ever.... so back to the impact gel until I find a better solution. Doing a lot of research on CSI, but I realize that no pad will fix if the saddle flat out doesn't fit. This is a small (14.1) cow bred mare. She's somewhat round but she does have withers, and she's pretty short backed. Doesn't look like she should be a tough horse to fit. My LM has fit other (bigger) horses well for me, so kind of surprising that this would be too tight on her.
Does this look like something that I can correct with a better pad? Or do I need to start from scratch with a different saddle?

Thanks in advance!!

If it's too tight, a thick saddle pad probably won't help. You could email Lynn pictures of your mare and she'll give her thoughts. Her saddles have a different flare, which could be why it's not fitting your mare right. CSI does have a wicked (good) 30-day money back guarantee I think also.
I don't know that it's any help, pictures would probably be good if you need more. I hope it works out!

New saddle would be best, but I have used a clinton Anderson PRS pad and it works well. You can find them used.

Anyone have experience with the LM special saddle? Does it tend to run narrow? When I purchased I was under the impression that it was designed to fit a large variety of backs, but now I am seeing where some are saying that the special is actually a semi QH bar?
