We went for a few years with only netflix and the 4 basic channels in our area. We have cable now, and I end up watching netflix most of the time anyway.

Granted it doesn't always have the movies you want to see, but I have come across some pretty good movies that I had never heard of. The only reason I watched them was because it kind of looked interesting. Granted I LOVE documentaries, and I HATE commercials lol, so netflix is right up my alley.

If you pay for the option that you can have movies sent to your house, there is a larger selection of movies. For instance when Secretariat came out, it hadn't been out long when I could have netflix send me the movie. A lot of times the really popular movies are for dvd only, you can't watch them instantly.

I love the movie option and we may be getting that plan again. All you do is add movies to your list, they send you a certain amount of movies at a time (you choose how many when picking your plan), when you are done you mail them back. As soon as they get them they send the next 2 or 3 movies on your list. They are also pretty fast about sending you movies. Or they were a few years ago anyway.

We are horrible about renting movies and not returning them forever because we forget, or don't have time to go back to the store or whatever. With netflix there isn't (or at least there wasn't when I was doing it) a late fee... You just don't get any more movies until you return the movies you have. Plus we always had time to walk to the mailbox lol.

If you don't have cable, how do you watch the NFR? It's just 1x a year, but I sure do like forward to watching it - I watch the whole thing, not just the barrel racing.

I watch a lot more of it now in person since I'm saving so much money by not having a $100+ satellite bill and can afford to go to Vegas for a few days.  For the other days, I crash at my Dad's house or somebody else's who has it recorded.

We got rid of directv a while ago and got Roku's for all of our tvs.  Even my mother in law who isnt tech savvy but watches a lot of tv is good with it.

You just plug the roku device into your tv and use the remote to connect it to your wifi.  There are many free streaming chanels you can access with the roku, including several that give us local news access.   We have our amazon prime tv., I pay for hulu, which has a lot of tv and movies and we pay for a couple of other streaming chanels for my MIL & hubby.  she likes halmark movie type stuff and he likes the history channel stuff.

Total cost now is about $30 per month instead of the $150 that directv wanted to up our bill to and neither one of them have complained about the change so I don't guess they miss directv that much.
