Thanks for all your advice! I bought a brand new platinum slant load.

I have always used shavings but with it being so hot I'll have all the drop downs down and I don't like the idea of all that blowing around in there. What's the best bedding to insulate from road heat that won't fly up their nose?

I use shavings but I always wet them down before I haul somewhere.

Edited to add that I also do NOT tie my horses in the slant trailer. They are good haulers and it gives them the opportunity to put their head all the way down if they want.

We just put an Equiflex flooring in our trailer. No more mats, no more shavings. Very reasonably priced also.

Is this similar to WERM and Polylast?

I use shavings and put a fly mask when hauling.

I have WERM flooring in lieu of rubber mats and put shavings. I also haul with fly masks on

Yes it is their own formula. Works very well. I just sweep it out during hauls and then when you wash it after hauls the water runs right through the floor. Mine is built up in the back to take pressure off the horses legs during stopping and turning. Really great product, they did a great job on it.

It's not so much their eyes I'm concerned about because I can use a mask. It's their nose. From my understanding, that's where a lot of respiratory problems come from - getting hay or shavings in their nose and not being able to put their head down and get it out. Then it becomes an infection.

I'll have to look that stuff up. You don't worry about rusting or rotting your floors when you wet shavings?

If you buy the bagged big flake pin shavings, I feel  there is little chance it will go up their nose.

I use the very fine shavings. They don't blow up as much. I used to haul commercially across the country and never once had an issue.

I use big flake pine shavings as well and wet them and have never had an issue. Not everyone agrees with this, or has the option based on who they are hauling, but I also don't tie my horses in the trailer. So, if they needed to put their head down to get something out, they could.

What if you hauled with a muzzle on, since it's the nose? Depending on how far you were hauling, they wouldn't be able to eat, but you wouldn't' have to worry about the dust.

We use the Pine Pellet Stall bedding from Tractor supply. No dust and absorbs urine better than shavings and cleans up easier.

We use fine shavings in our stock trailer and we don't have any problems with shavings flying around?? We also tie our horses up, and keep hay bags in front of them. Zero respiratory problems.
