FLITASTIC - 2015-07-07 12:41 AM I bought 3 bags of fresh ( June 17 manufacture date) Nutrena senior. My horses love it, and even after a week they look and feel amazing! Was really happy. Went to go feed tonight and I was at the bottom of the bag and sure enough there was a chunk of MOLDY grain at the very bottom! Just one chunk about the size of your thumb but STILL! I live in a very dry climate In southern calif so it had to come that way from the mill. And the chunk of mold did not look like the same feed. This mill insists they don't use the same lines for cattle feed. My A$$. I can't blame tractor supply the feed is dated fresh. They did awesome on ultium but got to hot. I guess fresh clean whole oats it is !

They mill the Triple Crown the same way and that was my point. Sorry.

You are right. We make Renew Gold in Northern CA and it goes to Kansas City, then to Waverly Nebraska, and then back to a Tractor Supply that is thirty miles from our facility. In most cases they are selling enough to keep it well within the timeframe that provides a long usable shelf life for the customer. Still, it is not unusual for a few bags of any feed to get put behind something in the warehouse. Renew Gold has a one year shelf life because of the stabilization that we are so serious about. Even then, you need to read the dates on the bags. When in doubt, tell your store that you will not feed dated products, any dated products.

Correct, in fact, my local feed store had some Ultium on a pallet that was dated March 2015. THen next to it was a pallet dated June 2015. I bought 2 bags while back and I asked for mine to come from the most fresh pallet. Loader refused and said he was ordered to use the old pallet that was 90+ days old. SO I went in and owner was very upset saying that they had to rotate. SO I just got my money back.

this is what the last bag of "sweet feed"Β i ever bought looked like, last fall i bought a bag of cubes that were actually hot....and solid rotten............i feed whole oats now, no more molasses no more sugar anything(except beet pulp).

m

Holy smokes Ruggles!! My little tiny piece of mold is nothing compared to that! LOL Was it really old???

I dont think so...they go through feed pretty fast there.....m

Would you tell us again how to read the tag on the Renew Gold? Thanks!

We have two ways that Renew Gold is dated. If the bag has a white tape strip sewn across the bottom of the bag, the will be four numbers in blue ink printed on that strip. The first number is the year, a 5 for 2015. The next three are the day of the year, 001 being Jan 1st to 365 being Dec 31st. Renew Gold made today would be marked 5188.
On bags that do not have the white bottom tape the date is printed in black on the image of the horse on the front of the bag. Month, day, year.
