RLT laser for an older tendon injury?
Expert
Posts: 1611
Anyone used an RLT laser for an older tendon injury? Owner has a mare that has been given a year or more off to help ensure correct healing. Vet's agreed that the "window" for stem cell and PRP was missed because the injury occurred a few months prior to their purchase of her and the injury was only found after purchase. They now have an expensive pasture pet whose injury was not caught on a pre-purchase exam. Any who wondering if anyone has had success with the RLT laser on old injuries?
Most vet's i've talked to on the east coast feel that the RLT laser cannot help with a deep tissue injury but only promote healing on exposed tissue.
Any success stories?

No experience with that, but what about Shock Wave as an alternative?

Just an fyi. Mine had an old tendon injury front left, SSDT/SL. I went ahead and did the PRP anyway. He has been completely sound since. Not sure if it was a fluke. Might look into Novobrace.

They have spoke with the novobrace ppl and they are unsure of how it would affect her with the injury being so old. The owners want to give it a try tho.
Shockwave was actually never given as an option to them for this old injury. Have you had success brining one back with it?

With which one? No vet has mentioned shock wave as a treatment. have you had success with it?
The novobrace ppl in KY are recommending PRP then novobrace.

With tendon issues, anything can be a gamble. Mine has been ok so are with the PRP. If he should come up lame with it again. I will not hesitate to do the PRP AND Novobrace together. This is actually the route I almost took but decided to see if the PRP would be enough. As I said, mine was an old injury from his track days, that resurfaced due to scar tissue we think. I have had no experience with shockwave other than on my other guy who has some navicular issues. My vet used him as experiment, it was free so I went with it. He certainly felt better without a doubt.
