So my daughter has been competing in 4-H Rodeo's all summer. We have watched another gal we know struggle all summer with her horse that has gate issues. Her horse will rear and not go in the gate. Then once they do get it in it may totally blow the pattern, run up the fence, or rear again. I tried talking to the mother of the little gal at one rodeo. Mentioned they might want to try Chiropractics, taking it to a reliable horse vet, etc.
Well today things finally hit the fan! The horse went over backwards on this little gal and broke her leg. I'm so frustrated and upset! I guess I should have just been blatantly bold and said "Hey, your horse is gonna kill your kid or someone else!" Like my husband says though the parents probably would have thought I was just another ******* parent and wouldn't have listened anyways. Seriously though...How blind are these people. The horse has been rearing for the last 8 rodeo's! Even dented one of the goat contractors pickups by falling into it! Why couldn't they see the danger! I just don't get it, I"m mad and upset that these parents didn't see this coming and I'm mad and upset that I feel like I should have said more....even if it wouldn't have done any good.

If they didn't get the memo from watching their daughter go through that, you saying something to them wouldn't have made a difference either. They should be grateful it was only a broken leg. That could have easily killed her.

If they were letting their child ride a horse acting like that, they probably would not have listened. Hope the girl is ok.

I know...ya'all are right...just makes me sick to see a young gal in this spot. Heaven knows I do stupid stuff too but to watch this over and over again....I just don't understand how any parent could think this was O.K? Guess I'm just the "Super Safe" Mom who forces helmets on her kids and slightly undermounts them to keep em safe. I think they thought this horse would "Win" They only advance the top 4 to State Finals so I suppose they kept thinking "If we can just get it in". I

There is a kids rodeo association around here that thinks if the horse doesn't lunge and get airborne going down the alley that it is not any good. One of the parents told me they would not have my horse. He WALKS down any alley. Incidentally, that was before he was APHA Res world champion in pole bending and top ten in barrels. They do not have to be fools to be good. No, they are not going to listen to you or anyone else. The way I look at it, they hate their kid.

I've said it time and time again, I will not ride stupid barrel horses. My horse so much as swings a hip in the alley and I get after her because she knows better.

I am going through this exact thing, they are overmounting this kid to try and beat me, and I've told them time and time again that she is a nut case. Was before they bought her and will be after they are done. Girl ran her once and went through the fence. I think the wife has convinced the husband to sent it down the road. I only hope, because she's crazy.

Producers, in this case 4H Rodeo, needs to toughen up and not allow this to happen. Unfortunately, many parents will continue to put children in danger.

This is giving me flashbacks from when I was a kid in 4-H. Ugh...there were a lot of parents living vicariously through their kids when I was in 4-H. A LOT. No amount of bluntness changed anything...and they were allowed to continue competing.

I agree with Murphy. Can you imagine someone trying to tell you how to raise your child?
I know.I know.. we all work around horses... and we all know a horse can kill you without trying to do so...But some people don't realize this!! We here know a horse can 'spaz out' and jump right over the top of you. But there are a lot of people out there that don't know that a horse is prey animal and can and will jump through you if it sees a 'horse eating monster"....
Superman fell off a horse and died... How much more dangerous can they be??
