I am really contemplating on ordering this. I tore my hamstring a couple of months ago. I have been back on for not quite a month and I have no leg strength in that leg. I was thinking of getting the magic seat until I can get that leg built up. I does make me a little nervous, but I have a lot of entries out right now and made a run this past weekend and felt like I was all over the place. Please dont flame me for thinking about using it. If you have used it or have experienceds with it please let me know. TIA..

I have no personal experience, but several of my friends use them. They are not dangerous. There is no way they would hold you in if your horse fell (the Velcro would tear apart way too easy). They simply give you that little extra security should you get popped up or off balance. I would use it if I felt I needed it.

I use one on an Arabian mare that's one of my kids at the barns barrel horse. I literally flew off the back of her! Running poles (no joke) of corse I'm not even a 100 lbs and don't have the muscle tone I used to have. so I definitely use one on a hard to ride one to keep my butt grounded! Been working on her because she's very sensitive and noodley & She's like a speeding car that over corrects and slides sideways a bit before she takes off lol.( not engaging her hind end)old owners let her get away with murder! I it makes you more comfident and reduce potential reinjury go for it.

I use one on just one horse. I ordered one from the TACK STOP and the other I bought at Joseys. Joseys is close by. They definitely help. I have a friend that cut her Achilles tendon and could not put weight on that foot. she used one for awhile. She is a trainer.

I use one every time I run. I'm 63 and just not as strong as I used to be. It certainly won't hold you in, but it gives you a little bit of "stick" if the horse stumbles or something and gives you a second to get back where you should be. I think, with me, it's more of a confidence thing than anything, because I make runs at home without it, but I ride much more aggressive if I have them on. lol

I believe Allie Chouest uses one (she just won Youth World by like 4 tenths on Sporty). You can see it in her barrel pictures.
I don't really agree with a rider who is sound and capable using one but given your situation, I'd say go for it.

I'm "sound and capable", and IMO have a good seat. But if I was riding a high powered horse able to set arena records like those of the teen and youth winner this past week, I would most certainly benefit from a magic seat! It's not hurting you, so why disagree with it? If you think they're beating you bc of a Velcro seat, go buy yourself one!
I don't use one, but the new horse I'm running is so strong I'm glad I have my Tammy Fischer treeless to help hold me in haha.

Thank you for all the great responses.. I have always felt if you needed that maybe you shouldnt be riding.. Maybe this is Karma coming my way.. Anyway, I think I am going to try one at least until I get some strength back. I have a super nice mare that I am totally getting in her way because my balance is off and lots of big races and entry fees coming up.
