Location: Canada | Hey everyone, for the last 3 years my horse Digger has been on and off lame and we thought it was his feet the whole time. Finally we got a chiropractor out and found out it is actually something pulled in his back. He did adjustments on him and he is already doing a lot better. Digger has had about 2 years off of riding, so I was wondering if you guys had any other ideas/tricks to get his back better as the chiropractor said it may take awhile before he will be ready to ride again. Any advice would help, thanks guys! |

Were going through this with our gelding, the vet put him on muscle relaxers for a couple weeks then 5 weekly shots of estrogen and my daughter is just now legging him back up. We will see how it goes. |

Why would a gelding get estrogen? |

Estrogen tightens ligaments - it is also used for locking stifles. |

Correct, that was for the stifle NOT the back. My bad.
We used the same vet that works Louie through his issues so I kinda go with the flow and try to take in as much as possible but it gets overwhelming. |

Location: Bandera, TX | I would send your horse to someone that has a track record for working with sore back horses. Those that start dressage horses have the knowledge base of roundpen exercises under long reins and such to get your guy off to a good start. No saddle till the bottom and the top line begin to strengthen again. Then add the weight of the saddle and proceed with training. Fascia work is very important as well as someone that knows how to stretch the serratus and latissumis dorsi areas to compliment the back and hind quarters. Take your time as in 6mo to a year for the horse to return. |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | I would x-ray the back to make sure he doesn't have kissing spine or some other underlying condition causing the pain. |
