Proper way to quarantine a horse...

So my "kill pen horse" just arrived today and I have her seperated and in our round pen. She appears to be healthy but I want to make sure. How long should I quarantine her and what things do I need to be careful not to do? If I just feed her last and santatize my hands etc is that all that I need to do? Never had to quarantine a horse before so I'm not sure what it all entails.
Thanks!

I was told to truly quarinteen a horse they need to be a minimum or 2 or 4 miles diameter from any other horses. This is because of flies.
Also clothes, footwear have to be changed immediately before and after entering the pen.
Brushes, blankets, buckets, have to be sterilized before another horse uses them.

I think a screen enclosed stall works too.

We used to keep a little tub of disinfectent outside the stall and step in it before going in and also coming out of the stall

I did what you are doing with the 2 I bought. I made sure anything that went into their stalls was sprayed with bleach when it came out. Manure fork included. I kept mine in for 30 days in a stall away from everyone else. The one mare did wind up with shipping fever. None of the others here caught it.

My vet says 30 days and no contact with other horses for 30 days. Keep 30 ft away from others. Nothing else to do unless they start running a temp. I know some also give a round of antibiotics just as a precautinary preventative. Talk to your vet about that. Thats all we did and everything went fine. Congrats and thankyou for saving a life. We have bought 2 out of the K.P. and I love them both. Both very nice horses.
