Unable to Live Without Chocolate or Coffee

| Just wondering how everyone else is storing their pelleted or grain feeds? We live in california. The northern costal mountains. So not too humid. But we do have wet winters(normally lol) and can get hot summers. I've been storing our feed in trash cans either plastic or aluminum in the barn and haven't seem a problem yet. Except for one bag of wet cob that was stored in a locking metal can/barrel that we left for 9 months or so and it molded.
Since I only have one or two horses now, I don't feed a lot just a scoop once a day so one bag lasts me a long time. I worry about storing it properly. |

| If you're keeping it indoors I use some nice plastic tubs from Target. If outside, get the raccoon proof screw on kids and container (also bear proof) on Amazon. |

| Old chest freezers are the best for keeping stuff fresh. You can usually pick up non-working ones pretty cheap too!  |

Location: CTX | I used to use the rubbermaid trash cans and a small freezer, but I kept ending up with little spiders in them, and sometimes even ants. (they are in a shed, so no way to keep small critters out).
Now I have the vaults from amazon and they are great! Nothing gets in them, and everytime you open them you can smell the freshness. I have the 50lbs version and they truly hold a 50lbs bag of grain.

| ALl you need to do to keep insects out is spray the ground under your feed bin with fly spray. |

They sure are. Here is a picture of them. These are not the stackable kind, they have those too. But I didn't want those.

The one time I noticed bugs in my feed was when I bought too much....a bag of Renew Gold lasts me 2 months because I feed half a pound and I had 2 bags in there....I should have expected bugs now that I think about it. I'm closely monitoring this one bag to see what happens. Will keep the Vittle Vault in mind though!!! |
