Expert Posts: 5293	My water troughs get nasty. I have to dump ad clean them every few days when its warm. I bought a couple of those sachets from Tractor supply with oat hay in them. DO they actually work ? If so HOW???

	By fermenting in water making the water more acidic which slows down the growth of algae in your tanks .. phosphine gas is emitted from fermenting raw rolled oats or oat meal that are not introduced to cooking heat. If you are using the 100 gallon black rubber water tanks ... invest in a 2nd tank so you can keep one empty while the sun is sterilizing the insides and just switch them out when algae gets nasty in the one you are using .... you will find the sunshine tanks will not grow enough algae and will last for 2-3 weeks before needing to be dumped ...
