Location: North of the 49th Parallel | That is a very good question. I had one done in August but still haven't recieved my bill. I was quoted $400-500 for the BAL, results (he has his own lab I believe) and sedation and exam. |

Location: Bandera, TX | My vet was reasonable on the task, but he didn't even know what Tufts was going to be on the cytology. I was hoping someone had a clue. I hope you found answers in the labs. Are you treating and getting somewhere to a positive? |

Location: Bandera, TX | It's been a year off for this boy he needs to be done right by. Waiting on results so I can give definitive treatment. Still no word on the lab cost from the vet. |

| Funny that this just came up. I am taking my mare in to the university to get it done tomorrow. $260 includes sedation and everything else.
To those that have had it done, did you find the results to have helped and be conclusive? Reason I ask is my mare bled this past weekend, first time. Vet on site didn't have her scope to do it but my mare has allergies so it is suspected that it was allergy induced. So we were told to do a BAL to figure out if she bled because she is now a bleeder or if it was allergy induced. |

Yes. Mine are also allergy related. First vet wanted to just put her on Lasix after she bled and I said oh heck no (I can barely get a needle into her IM, let alone IV) and he wanted to do a round of Dex, so I took her into the largest clinic around. The vet there also agreed with me that we shouldn't do a round of Dex until we knew the results and the results were very very horrible allergies so we are doing a round of it. You can PM me for more info if you want. |

Location: Bandera, TX | diagnostics are so valuable glad you didn't go the Lasix route when you needed to go the steroid route
vet called me this afternoon and the lab charges were what I was expecting the fed-x overnight was a bit high
This is the exact timing last year my horse wasn't feeling good. I had him inshape but he wasn't recovering as I thought he should. Possibly thought he was bleeding but on his scopes he was clean. Labs-blood, were fine with the exception of sodium. Thought I would just turn him out and wait. Life got busy he got a good break. First run back he felt good and recovered good. He was prepped with two months of Aqua rehabilitation. And a month of riding. So I was happy with the results of his return to competition. Second run back he refused the arena this weekend. Once in he made a decent run. Gave Neb treatment after and early the next morning. He seemed much better. No signs of a bleed so I ran him and he about lost me. He was working well and seemed to recover better. I'm still waiting on fluticasone. We were presumtous when I had him get a full work up that possibly he was having allergy issues and I wanted to have it on board. Well, it was on back order-still waiting... My hope is that the labs give us a clear indication of what treatment this gelding needs to be happy about his job. I just wish I had the Cornell collar to rule out restriction at the hyoid. I ran him in a figure 8 as well on the third run so it might have played a role in the aspect of displacement. Now, I wait and pray that we get results telling us which way to go. |
