I am looking for a saddle that helps me keep my feet in front of me.  I am a long time pleasure rider so i struggle to get and keep them out front. The Tammy Fischer looks like it would help a lot but i cant tell just from the pictures.  I currently ride in a Caldwell and i love it but since i am short, i struggle to keep my legs in front and thus my butt in the saddle.  Any suggestions on brands that would be a better fit for me?

Martha Josey

I LOVED the forward hung stirrups on my old MJ I use to have.

Could you have a saddle shop alter your caldwell to have forward hung stirrups?

I've struggled with this as a former hunter rider.

I've ridden crown c's and double j pozzi pro's for the last year or so and the Pozzi was better than the crown c, but I currently ride a Martin fx3 and i LOVE it. I finally feel like I can stop on my butt and get my feet in front of me.

I rope out of an older 2005 Martin trophy rope saddle and feel the same way about it. I think it is a combination of a lower cantle and the way the stirrups are hung.

Anyone try a Deb Sibley?  They appear to have adustable fenders to be able to put them where you want them.  seeing various opinions on them (quality of the leather) and since i now have a Caldwell, that will be a tough adjustment!  mine is amazing!

I was going to say that I can't believe no one has suggested a Sibley. I love mine, and love the fact that I can set my stirrups more forward or back depending on the horse I am riding. On one of my horses, I can definitely tell when they aren't set forward enough because my feet get behind me so easily.
My Sibley has really been a lifesaver for me. I also had good luck with the circle y jackie treeless.

ABSOLUTELY the DEB Sibley. I have a sway back, and NO saddle I ever tried came even close to what the Sibley does. Quality is not that great, but it's still a great saddle, for me. If you order NEW, order the Hermann Oak leather upgrade, get a better quality saddle. I have my backup DS for sale, 15", 4" cantle, fully tooled ith ostrich upgrade, if that fits you, PM me. Also, I did try a Circly Y Ty Mitchell that the fenders swiveled, rode pretty good for keeping feet forward.

I am 5' tall (and that is pushing it). I had a Deb Sibley and it def kept my feet forward but I rode horrible in it because to get the fenders short enough I had the front one run to the top hole which brought my legs too far forward and could not move. I had Double J fit my horse and the guy stated I probably get my feet behind me a lot because I run fenders all the way up which hinders forward movement. I am ordering a new saddle and they are going to make the fenders fit me. I have a Merrill that really keeps your feet in front of you but unfortunately it does not fit my horse.

If you like the saddle you ride in and it fits your horse and you just have a saddle maker move the stirrups forward.

I love my Shiloh contender and my Robbie Phillips. I am shorty, and I feel very balanced, with good leg position in both saddles.

I just read that the 'Duke' by Double J has adjustable stirrups that allow you to move them forward I guess like a Sibley. Anyone of one of these saddles??

Absolutely the Josey Ultimate for the forward hung stirrups...I have one that I will ride in to just ride, but to compete in...ugh!....maybe just to exhibition is ok....

I love my Caldwell TG to run in, but it's got the high ground seat,  so not too comfortable to ride in for long periods of time, but the stirrup leathers are are perfectly situated and actually feel better than the Josey...so maybe a different Caldwell could strike a balance for you too....I guarantee if you ride in a Caldwell, you will throw rocks at the Josey...

I sold my Jeff Smith cutter with really foward hung stirrups when I sold my sorting horse last year, You might check into something like that too....

I did buy a nice Martin Matt Gaines cutter to ride in if I ever wanted to sort again, and the stirrups are forward in it too, but not as much as the Jeff Smith....I think I like the flatter seat for sorting and the stirrups suit me better on the Martin too...personal preference, I guess!

Spend time in an English saddle and get control of your legs. If you can control them in leathers and irons, then you should never have to worry about controlling them in any barrel saddle.

Edited to add; I thought I had good control of them showing western and lot's of riding bareback, but putting them in an English saddle, is somehow a whole 'nother level.

Bought a new Martha Josey with 5" cantle.  It was great for slow work but threw your feet behind you when you made a run.  Now have a Tammy Fischer and love it along with a Allen Ranch that has the same type fenders as a Deb Sibley.
