What do you want to see in the ad? What are some deal breakers?

Ive had a horse listed for 2 weeks now and have had zero interest so far. I know 100% the horse is not over priced as I talked to a lot of professionals and discussed it with several people before landing on the price, he's not cheap, but not outrageous either.

Are horses just generally not selling quickly right now?

Horses in general don't sell well in the fall and winter months, spring time is the best time to sell.

However some do sell, but it is more a buyers market.

In any ad, I look for

Pedigree, a copy of the papers, this way I know you have them, allbreed is not a reliable source.

Photos, I want a professional looking photo, nice halter, brushed, good scenery, a lot of people like horses to be standing almost square but so you can see all four legs.

When people ask for more photos, again nice pictures, have the horse stand square picture of the front and of the back.

A 1d horse, I would want to see videos proving he is a 1d horse. Some people do a wonderful job putting together a video of the videos, with captions on each run showing time, the fastest time ran, and placing.

I also want current videos, I don't want to see 1d runs from 3 yrs ago, and nothing current, this makes me wonder what happened.

As for price; age, pedigree, maintaince are big factores in pricing. He may be priced according, but it will take awhile to find the right person, if you want to sell fast, you will have to drop the price so he is a steal of a deal.

Everything Cheryl M just said above. I just want to add put specific places and dates where that horse ran and how it placed. Have some links on the ad to the race results. If you have a video showing the run that coordinates with those results posted, that will get attention.

I just sold a 1D horse, but it was a repeat buyer. I actually sell more horses in the fall than I do in the spring. I just think the higher caliber horses don't move as fast because 1) their price tags are higher and 2) not everyone can ride a true 1D horse. If I was buying a 1D horse, I'd darn sure want to see SEVERAL videos in several different arenas from several different angles.

Lots of videos or a link to your youtube channel.  I want to be able to google the horse's name and see race results pop up so I can see who the horse is running 1D against.  A brief chronological history of training and ownership would be nice.

You can put a link at the bottom of your posts. That is allowed. I check out lots of ads from posters. I'm not in the market for a 1D horse myself, but someone might see it and it's what they want. More exposure never hurts.

I've never bought a trained barrel horse before, much less a 1D, but if I were to do so.

A GOOD conformation picture with the horse standing square, from both sides. Front and back would also be nice, to see the straightness of the legs. A barrel picture would be okay too, but that's not really required for me. If anything, I like to see a picture when they are running on a straight-away so I can see how long of a stride they have.

Several GOOD videos that are not from an iPhone and are not blurry.

For myself personally, I wouldn't have to have a copy of the papers in the ad. Allbreedpedigree would do. If I'm serious on the horse, then email correspondence can get me a copy of that later on. But of course, I do want the bloodlines listed.

For a trained barrel horse, especially 1D, I want to see accomplishments. What have they won, where was it, and out of how many riders. Makes a difference if they are 1D at a local race with 40 people than if they are 1D at a race with 500+ entries. Links to race results are helpful to prove it.

I certainly want to know any "quirks" the horse may have, and absolutely want to know what maintenance they need to continue running at the 1D level.  And how they run (free style or push).

For most everything else, if I'm seriously interested, then I'm going to make a phone call to hear the rest.

Consistency from the horse. I've seen lots of ads that only have one video and one result where the horse placed in the 1D....
I want many videos all from the current year. I don't care what He/She did in 2009. I don't even care who the parents are most of the time unless I purchase with the intent of reselling.  I want late 2014 and all of 2015 videos and results. Lots can change in a years time.

I also second everything that's been mentioned. especially the google part. Results don't lie.

All the above posters has covered it pretty darn good, the only thing I hate seeing in ads is::: No tire Kickers to me thats a big no no. How do you know if this horse is for you if you dont ask any questions or try it out.

I saw your ad and its a nice one, with good videos. The only thing is I think the price might be a bit high and you might need to say what kind of minimal maintenance he needs. I think its just a bad time of the year to try to be selling a horse with winter coming on. I bet if you try in the spring you might have better luck.

I always sell more from Thanksgiving through the New Year (to February).  Kids are on vacation from school and/or there is a break between rodeos and people want something they can get with early in the spring.

I have fewer hits from the BHW ads, but social media and referrals keep me busy.

I have several inquiries, but we are trying to finish out our season before letting our current mounts hit the road.  I have been selling client's horses without any issues.  Again, social media has been bringing me more buyers than BHW.  I still place ads though.

Recent stats and recent videos. I hate looking at an ad for a 1D horse (or any horse) and the videos are from 2013.

Specifics of where they won the 1D with how many entries, etc. (and when) Yeah my mare won the 1D once at a weeknight jackpot with 20 horses so I wouldn't be lying if I said she had won the 1D- but she's no true 1D horse. List accomplishments or link to results, or post videos where you can see/hear the time at a known arena. I don't think you need to post the papers- allbreed is fine. A well-taken conformation shot (horse standing square with all legs showing, good lighting) will help draw attention to your ad, but in my opinion is more important for a prospect than for a 1D horse. People are less picky on conformation if a horse is already a proven winner.
