I purchased a weanling at the end of September as a future barrel prospect for me. So far she is extremely level headed and smart.

I'd love to know what everyone thinks of her pedigree. Her registration is pending at the moment, but here are her sire and dams papers..

Check the Charts was one hellva a runner in his day he ran out like 240k+ in the 80's which was frankly unheard of in QH racing...he was a machine....decent producer, not as well known as many other sires in that time period

That's very interesting! I'd never heard of him before. Thank you :)

Since you did ask, there's nothing that would excite me as a barrel horse prospect. Was the broodmare any kind of a producer? I would be more excited if the mare was a producer of some kind, even if it wasn't barrels. Anything past 3rd gen (and really 2nd gen) is kind of irrelevant since they aren't contributing much past there (I forget the %). So you have a great-granddaughter of FG/Okey Dokey Dale out of a great-granddaughter of Playgun. Personally I avoid the cow/run crosses. Some of the hottest run off horses I ever sat on were cow bred. Cross that on a horse that can actually run now you just have one that can really run off. There are sons of FG, DTF, FWF, etc priced reasonably that on paper have more potential than these IMO. But if you like this filly, then that's all that matters and rock on!

It's so funny how we all have different preferences! I for one LOVE cow/run crosses. I own nothing else
I hope she turns into something fabulous for you!

To me everything on the papers is too far back for me to be interested.

Frenchmans buck is still alive and producing good barrel horses, so I would have went for a direct prodigy.

I'm not familiar with the stud, did he futurity this year, how did he do, if he didn't futurity, I would be asking why?

Playgun is the only one I really know on the bottom side, and to me it is too far back since there are many horses with Playgun closer up.

It all depends on what you paid for, if the horse is in any incentives, and the most important thing is that you like the horse
