| looking for opinions on what is the best product to give our barrel horses. I can't seem to decide between the two and would like opinions on both. |

| Platinum Performance is definitely the superior supplement when comparing the two. A flax based supplement (Platinum) will typically be better than non flax based supplements. Flax alone is one of the best supplements you can give your horse. Oxy is a hyped up antacid (sodium bicarbonate) mixed with grain (they do not even specify what type of grain). You can achieve the same with Baking soda sprinkled over your horses feed (not recommending this). Oxy also claims joint benefits. This appears to be from the glucosamine and minimal amount of MSM. Any joint supplements are typically acidic by nature (including glucosamine) and are significantly hindered when an antacid is present. A horses stomach is constantly trying to regulate pH. Long term use of an antacid can actually worsen ulser issues.
And then comes cost...at $2.50-$5.00 per day (depending on dosage rate you use) oxy is way more expensive than Platinum Performance. You would have to step up to PLATINUM CJ before you would be in that cost range. But, oxy cannot hold a candle to CJ. |

| Try Thunder Mountain Minerals. It is helping so much with the 'nervous nellie' horses that tend to melt down in the alley way. Calms them and really helps focus and do their job. First off- OxyMax has been on the market for over 10 years, if it did not work it would have been discontinued long before now, instead it is my number one selling product. We have over 10,000 mg of glucosamine hcl and Sulfate, as well as 7500 mg of msm. We also have Chondroitin, we use so much more than baking soda. The Sodium Bicarbonate and Magnesiums are encapsulated in an oil base that travels through their digestive tract. We also have papaya enzymes, probiotics, and aloe gel concentrate in the formula. Our Oxy-Gen formula for lungs/respiratory is the base of the product, which has also been on the market for 20 years. Platinum is a Great vitamin/mineral supplement. | I've used both. Don't know that I saw much of anything with the oxymax/magmax.
I can say all of ours have absolutely bloomed, filled out, improved hoof and hair coat since starting Platinum this spring. Costs us $0.86/feeding at a rate of a 1/2 scoop per feeding, very reasonable for the results.
I think there are better alternatives to support joints than fed supplements, so I choose not to spend my money there anymore. |
