Thought I'd start my own post, and yes at first I'm thinking ulcers. So I treated her for 2 weeks as a precaution with Ulcergard. Have seen no change. However she's fine to ride, run, circles, no issues or attitude. She's gotten to be so cinchy she now shows her teeth when I slowly cinch her up. I switched cinches to both the airflex and the new featherflex same attitude. Could it just be her? I hate to call a vet out if she shows no soreness while working her. Or could it be hindgut ulcers? I really don't know of any products that I've used besides Ulcerguard, Forco, and Jail break in the past. I'm open to suggestions to those that own mares and maybe have dealt with this behavior before. Thanks.

Just once this summer..she wasn't real bad then..but yes am thinking that route now..just seems odd she rides nicely. Then I get wondering about stifles or could a sore back cause cinch attitudes too?

When they aren't themselves for no apparent reason I just bite the bullet and take them to the vet. I have found that I can save money doing that instead of trying this and that and then going to the vet because I couldn't find a fix.
What about saddle fit? Is your saddle pad old and it's time to get another one? Just brain storming here.

Saddle pad is a brand new 5 star 1" thick..she doesn't feel sore to the touch when I run my hands and fingers along her spine. But love the suggestions here!!

maybe too thick? I started out buying 7/8" 5 stars and now mostly use 1/2"

That was my thought too on being to thick of a pad, and what type of saddle do you have on her, if the saddle is to narrow it could be really making her sore. The one inch is really a thick pad, I like my 3/4 amd 1/2 inch pads when I know that my saddle is fitting good. And that would be a good ideal to have a vet to go over her and check a few things on her. When you cinch her up do you do it slowley, I think I read that you did, but when I cinch I just snug the cinch do other things then snug a bit more walk them out a little and tighten up slowley.

My mare got cinchy when her ovaries were sore. She would reach around and bite. She had a very large cyst. Took care of that issue and she was no longer cinchy. Might be worth it to have a repro exam done.

I would take her off of all processed feeds firstly if that is what you're feeding and start her on the Cur-OST Stomach along with the Adapt & Calm immediately.  Then look at your saddle fit issues if you have a new saddle or pad.  Have you owned this mare a long time?  Changed saddles or pads recently?  Has she stumbled or fallen with your saddle on or has your saddle maybe fallen of the rack in your trailer?  Definitely need to eliminate the possibility of a broken tree as well, but the fact that she rides fine once saddled leads me to believe this isn't an issue.

Saddle isn't the issue, I ride a Caldwell and Sharon told me 1" since it's a bit wider saddle than she needs at the moment..she's got some filling out to do. Can someone give me more info on that CurOst ? I've never heard of it, maybe I'll pm you on here. Thanks.

Β Ulcers maybe???

I suspected too, I did treat her 2 weeks worth, but I'm not familiar with products people use for hindgut ones. I do feed Forco now for about a month.
