| I am trying to understand via the rules how it works but I'm a little slow today. I am very green to the futurity world but I have a 3yo with the trainer and I am told she might cut the mustard. How does the BBR Futurity work? I know you have to go to X number of shows to qualify but how do you do that between Dec 1 and Dec 31 to qualify for the finals in April? I'm sure that's totally not how it works but that's why I'm asking lol.
Thanks in advance.
ETA:
In case anyone else is wondering, once you qualify to go to the BBR you can enter the futurity or open. You don't "qualify" for the futurity.

Location: Bastrop, TX | I just came back from BFA where my 3 coming 4 or old ran in the Juvenile. Started training beginning of 2015. Could not be entered in any barrel race prior to Dec 1st 2015. Now after BFA he can enter any race or futurity and is eligible to go back to BFA Dec 2016 and run in the regular Futurity. So if yours is coming 4 in Jan you can enter the BFA futurity in Dec 2016. And run all of 2016. But you have to start paying on the entry fee in Jan 2015. If you want to Futurity your horse as a 5 or old you cannot enter it in any barrel race prior to Dec 2016 if they are about to turn 4 on Jan 2016. Hope this helps and didn't confuse you more.

| So if you have a 2012 colt you can wait as long as December of 2017 to start its futurity year? |

No that's great help. I am still trying to decide if I'm going to try the BFA or not. This will be my first futurity colt so I may stick to smaller, cheaper ones this year just to get my feet wet. My filly will be 4 in Jan and our hope is to futurity her this year (2016). |

| I'm in the same boat with the BFA. I have a 2012 model that I'm considering paying into it for next Dec, but I've been told that you're at a disadvantage if you hold off and make that their 1st futurity. MOST of the entries have been running all year. He won't be ready for any of the the 2016 winter ones or even spring probably, so I'm holding off for his 5 yo year. Anyone have any more thoughts on entering the BFA as your first fururity?? |

I think the BFA is a pretty tough one to be entering for the first one. I guess it depends on how you feel about your horse. |

It has been my experience that the bigger ones are better to enter. They play more places and it is easier to get a good check. The smaller futurities are usually entered late so most any of the horses running are running good. Harder to win money are those in my opinion. |

There are several futurities in the fall before the BFA. |
