We got our newest mare in the spring. We got a good deal on her so I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop, lol. My daughter has been riding her regularly until this fall when they took a break. The mare is super hot--we're just trying to learn her and get her to calm down. Anyway, a couple of months ago we noticed a thickening on the mare's nose right where the noseband would be or the halter. She doesn't wear either of them. It's low, kind of on each side of the sinus cavity in the soft tissue. It's very slight. You probably wouldn't notice it unless I pointed it out. But it's there. There are no other symptoms of anything. Definitely no nasal drainage or anything like that. My daughter doesn't THINK the mare was doing any kind of funny breathing when she was riding her, and I didn't notice anything whenever I was watching. Could this be the shape of her face or do I have something brewing? I'm not going to call the vet out for an endoscopy unless there's a real reason to. What do you guys think?

No kind of drainage or runny nose or eyes or anything like that though. Has anyone ever heard of Paranasal Sinus Disease? It sounds like the same area of the nose, but again, she doesn't have any drainage.

Yes South, it's soft. Right where her nasal cavity is. I guess I'm kind of glad that I didn't have a dozen responses on here, "Oh, thats yakka yakka yak and you need to (something expensive) and she might have a problem running..." No one said anything like that so I guess that's good news. Maybe it's nothing. I'll try not to worry about it and watch her harder when my daughter starts riding again. Thanks!
