Location: Minnesota | Has anyone dealt with Irritable bowel syndrome in dogs? We have a 4 year old mini Aussie that has episodes and HAS seen the vet. We have antibiotics and steroids that do help her. However I am wondering about long term care...they suggested we switch dog food to Royal Canine Gastrointestinal.
Any supplements or dog food that works for you? She was diagnosed in August and having another episode now, while this episode is no where near as bad as August it always has me worried.
This time we noticed early and started the steroid and antibiotics early so she is still perky, playing, eating, and drinking. We've just noticed the diarrhea. |

Location: North Dakota | I had a Doberman with ibs years ago!!! He could only eat Iams for sensitive stomachs!! If he was given scraps or even one bite of anything at all that was not sensitive stomach food he would get a flare up!!! Find a sensitive stomach dry food he can eat without getting a flare up and stick to it!!!! |

| My dog had terrible episodes but since switching her to California Natural dog food ( only 4 ingredients) , she has not had any problems at all. Its pricey but so worth it :) |

Location: Minnesota | I wonder if I am able to get something like that in Minnesota. She did have a tiny bit of Oreo last night as we were baking Christmas cookies so maybe that is why she flared up. Otherwise she never gets human food just her dog food and a treat to kennel. |

Location: Paradise , tx | We have a boxer with IBS. Use Science Diet sensitive stomach and skin. Also kind of help my other dog that had a strong body smell, helped alot (not completely gone, but much better) |

| We get ours from a specialty pet store, its hard to not give her treats or anything like that, but if we do she's absolutely miserable ,as are we for having to let her outside every 35 minutes all night long :( |

I would rec. Natural Balance Duck and Potato. Duck is generally easy to digest and is a "cool" protein. Also get a GOOD prebiotic for dogs. I use Optagest from In Clover. If you can't find it locally they have a web site. Great bunch of women and they will answer any gustions you have.
Natural Balance makes treats to match their food so you can have a treat. Also keep in mind it will take a while to get her gut and intestional track balanced. The meds kill the flora in their gut.
A good active yogurt is a good thing. I put a 32 oz. plain yoguart in the blender with a ripe banana and just a bit of good smooth peanut butter. Freeze into small chip size pieces.
Good luck. It is a pain to keep a close eye on them. Generally if you can get their system back on track they will tolerate some slip ups.

Location: Minnesota | Thank you everyone, vet is putting her back on the steroid and antibiotics till we get her on track again. We did a with her food previously to what was suggested (Royal canine GI). I just wish there was more I could do. |

Location: Florida.. | my girl had episodes of it but not IBS. shes old.. vet put her on Flagyl for 10 days.. it helped almost immediately. also science diet for sensitive stomachs. she has other things going on but that antibiotic helps.dont feed a bunch of differant stuff or treats etc.. keep it simple and bland and consistent.. not changes |

Just this week my inlaws had a schitzu that has ALWAYS had IBS. SHe is 10 now and had a really severe episode this past week. I took them some of my CUROST stomach and fixed her up in 48 hours. |

There are a LOT of foods out there much better than Royal Canine. (or Science Diet) Not a single bag of dog food on the marke requires a script. They are made on the same dang lines the rest of the food is made on.
