Other than back on track products, what do you guys do to keep your older powerhouses going strong? Supplements and such. He is 18 and still a solid 1d-2d horse with tons of heart. Thank you in advance (:

I keep my mare on THE with the ulcer prevent and joint supplement. She is also 18 still in the 1D/2D.

THE Muscle Mass is great for older horses. It helps them to keep their topline & give them the nutritional support they need as well since many are on a limited diet. I have kept a few retired oldies looking great into their 30's with just beet/alfalfa pellets and sometimes a sr feed depending on if they can still chew any hay at all. Currently my 23 yr old gelding gets senior, joint & arthritis, ulcer prevent added to his MM and the super old pony gets laminitis, senior, joint & arthritis.  It has several ingredients great for joints and digestion since that seems to be a biggie with the older crowd. They have a new blend called GluChon that has Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

I have a 24 year old going strong, and has been since he was 6. I use PHT products, and Cur Ost Plus on him now.

My little cousin has been the past couple years, but yes, he is still being competed on and doing great!
ETA: don't mind his winter fluff, and stain!

He would be a horse that would be SO CRABBY not to come with, I feel like he would also get depressed and probably go downhill. So regardless, he will be in the trailer as long as he wants to, if he is with my 3 year old son doing leadline, or with my cousin out there running, he will be cheesed!

My old guy, 20 y/o, was still running strong this fall thanks to THE Muscle Mass. He lost a bunch of weight this summer and I thought I was going to have to retire him. But after starting him on THE Muscle Mass he filled back out and had a lot energy. It's also the only supplement I've ever gotten him to eat! He felt fantastic, and ran great, this fall. I was super excited to keep running him in the spring, but he bled really bad on my last run. So now I don't know that I will run him again.

What I was doing for him the past 2 years, though:
Purina Senior
THE Muscle Mass
Previcox daily
Stifle injections twice a year
Classic Equine magnet blanket and chiropractic routinely

And most important a good exercise program that included weekly sprints.

This is pic is from NBHA state in October where he ran in the bottom of the 2D (57th out of 283 entries).

that's a great picture! My old barrel horse is going to be 23 and my youngest just took over the reins. We hope to make a few gymkhanas this summer. My other boy won his first buckle on him, that was a neat moment since I raised the horse. THE has done him wonders for his gut health. His knees are shot so he is mostly a walk trot horse for now. There just isn't anything out there that can fix him, but we do all we can to keep him comfortable.

Mine is 17 this year and still going strong.

We keep quality hay in front of them 24/7.
We had been doing well on horseman's edge and 707 joint supplements.
I use BOT and PHT products race day.

I think this year we will look into injections and chiro appts to go along with the care above.
