We are planning a spring trip and this is the planned route... just wondered if there are any MUST do's along the way near these cities or anywhere?

Oklahoma City-Fortworth-Austin-San Antonio-Galveston-Corpus Christi

We are thinking of taking a short 3 day cruise in either Galveston or Corpus Christ if anyone has any recommendations for Cruises around this area?

Thanks!!

The Oklahoma City Bomb memorial is such a cool place. It is peaceful yet makes you really reflect life. One of my favorite places to go. Also, Bricktown in downtown OKC is pretty cool.

OKC- Bricktown, Memorial, WinStar Casino at the OK/TX border. Its really is a site to see.

Fort Worth- go see the stockyards. downtown has also been renovated. Will Rogers arena almost always has something going on as well.

On your way down I-35 to Waco/Austin stop in West and have a kolochie (or 2 or 3 or 4)

Austin- not sure, I try to avoid that city. I would go prowl around on the outskirts and see some of the hill county.

San Antonio- Riverwalk.

Galveston- for sure go see the Kemah Boardwalk a little north of Galveston. Its fun and unique.

No suggestions for Corpus.

There are cruises that leave out of Galveston and Houston (probably not 3 day) ports.

You MUST hit the Western Outlet in Moore, OK.  (Just off of I-35 when you're heading south).  The Stockyards are great (they have an outlet there also, but I prefer the one in Moore).

If you need a tour guide. . I'm good!  Just give me a shout!

In OKC and Ft Worth the Stockyards. The place that has the kolaches is called the Czech Stop. Baylor university is also right off 35 in Waco. One of the prettiest campuses in the country and worth 20 minutes to drive around and gawk. Anyone who thinks there is nothing to see in Austin is crazy. The state capitol building and UT campus are both super neat. There are tons and tons of little unique places to eat in Austin. Be prepared for bad traffic in Ft Worth and Austin around rush hour. San Antonio has the riverwalk but also the Alamo. They also have a Sea World. And outlet malls are a dime a dozen but at last check the two largest, and I mean anywhere, are just north of San Antonio in New Braunfels and San Marcos. They have a ton of discounts. If you go on a cruise, before you leave eat at a little restaurant called the Cajun Greek. Their fried crabs are amazing, caught on the gulf that day.

This FOR SURE - I think everybody in America should see this. It was a place that REALLY had an impact on me. I just saw it last July.

Come about 30 min west of Fort Worth and come see Teskey's Saddle shop in Weatherford. Plan to stay for a good 4-5 hours. That place is HUGE!

Cowboy Hall of Fame in OKC. Just realized it's called the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum-beautiful paintings, sculptures and other artifacts. "The End of the Trail" is amazing as well as the Mountain Lion sculpture!

San Antonio - The Alamo!

Definitely the Alamo. The Menger Hotel is across the street from the Alamo I think. It is an old hotel that has been restored and has a bar that harks back to the days Teddy Roosevelt was in San Antonio. Beautiful wooden booths, a long bar with brass footrail and huge mirror behind the bar and lots of old pics. The only drawback is that it's one of the few bars that still allows smoking and it is smoky! The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum is not far from the Alamo and is another old time saloon. It is full of stuffed animals and the second floor has lots of artifacts, too. They used to have "gunfights" at the Buckhorn. now they just have actors dressed up in old timey western clothing with their sidearms.
