I've read too much on here and did something stupid. I've been a loyal SafeChoice customer for years. ALL the vet hospitals I've had to visit feed SafeChoice. Stupid me tried to switch to Purina Sr. and now my best guy is choked and headed to vet on firstfeeding of the two mixed feeds. Must be too much or low quality beet pulp in the Purina. Prayers please.

Thanks for the prayers. He's home and safe. He's on a restricted, soupy diet for a few days and antibiotics. Choke is so scary! Back to SafeChoice for us.

Glad he is better and yours do well in Safe Choice.   I used to feed it years ago and horses did not look good, inconsistent bags.  I have had one choke too-it is awful.

Horses can choke on anything. Pellets are the highest risk for choking. It really wasn't Equine Senior's fault, nor will Safechoice be any less likely to choke one in the future. So probably no shame on anyone. Choke, like colic, sometimes just happens. Best of luck to your horses recovery. Most choked horses do quite well and return to perfectly normal afterward.

Best of luck to your horse but I would bet a lot of money it had nothing to do with switching to Purina.  I used to feed SC but when my horse started getting sick, looking bad and the feed looked a mess along with the fact that Nutrena lied to me about running medicated feed through the same line I quit and went to Ultium.

I have to agree with the others that it probably wasn't switching the feed, but it is so hard not to want to blame something when that is the only thing you have changed. I think it was just his time to do it, maybe it did taste better and he gobbled it up faster. Safechoice and the chance of monosins are more scary to me. But this isn't about bashing feeds, I would soak whatever you feed him from now on and hope you never deal with it again. Glad he is ok now.
