Seriously considering moving to the DFW area this summer. Would like to stay north
(Denton, Pilot Point, Gainesville
) where there are plenty of breeding farms. Pros/cons of this area? Races, ropings? Price of land/houses, quality of land? I've been looking at houses between 5-10 acres with or without a barn and see quite a range of quality and prices. Thanks!

Definitely horse country. There are lots of barrel races in the DFW area. Depends on how far you want to drive.

I lived in Gainesville for a few months. Liked it over all. It wasn't hard to find small acerage to lease for a horse or 2. I think we paid $150 for 7 acres that had a 1 stall & tack/feed room. We lived at the breeding/training facility as it was part of our pay so no help on the cost of housing. My horse was injured so I never did make it to a barrel race but I think they were everywhere.

Moved here from NY 4 years ago, tornados may be only con. Tons of barrel races and rodeos every night of the week, main horse capital of Texas...big reining and cutting area. Tons of tack and feed stores. Tons of top vet clinics...love love it here. Cost of living is cheap compared to NY, no state income tax, cheap land, cheap houses, cheap food, cheap gas. Economy is booming, they are building everywhere, so jobs everywhere....
