| Hi hoping someone that has had Crown C's before can help me out. I have been interested in purchasing one but I called Martin and the closest dealer that could size my horses is about 3.5-4 hrs away and they only have 7" and 7.5" gullets in stock. I have two horses, one cowbred mare 14.2-3, she's 9 this year, last spring she was in a 7" correinte but pulled a loin muscle and vet advised that I get a wider saddle. Currently I have her in an older Pro Rider 8" gullet full bars, I use one shim on her right now. and My other horse 6 this year 15.3 corona cartel x jet deck gelding whose wide in the front and doesn't have a lot of withers. He's not as wide in the back as he is in the shoulder but still round backed, I had a corriente 7" on him last year and its way to small now and currently have him in a treeless. If anyone could help me kinda get a guess of what size crown C I should get that would be wonderful, I hate putting so much money in ordering a saddle without more confidence that it would fit my horses. Location: The Great Northwest | You can find larger gullet sizes that someone has ordered and want to sell. You may need to make the trip if can't find Martins in your area to try. |

Location: The Great Northwest | Your horse looks to have a little drop behind the withers. You may need a little rock in the tree for a good fit. That's where placing a bare tree on the back is so amazing to see just how it fits or not. |

| I'd go with a 8"-9" gullet. You can always shim if it's a little big. |

| I personally have had a lot of luck with 6&3/4 or 6&1/2" gullets but that's just me. My dad was a sales rep for Martin for years so that's all we ever use and I can tell you not many horses need a gullet much bigger than 7"! |

| You need to come to my place, as Majority of my horses need larger then a 7.
The only horses I have in 7 gullets are my 3 yr olds who haven't begun to fill out. |

Location: TEXAS | Larry Coats told me there is no such thing as gullets as big as 9 and 10 inch, that Martin measures in a lower spot on the saddle. He also told me that a saddle too big is worse than one too narrow. |

Was that on the Axis Crown C/FX3 trees or the standard Iron Horse/All Around trees?
The Axis trees are measured differently and made to sit farther back than other trees, I can't preach that enough.
Our rope saddles are all 6.5-6.75" gullets with a more open bar angle to accommodate the typically thicker build of a rope horse so I agree with you that most folks over estimate the gullet size they need in trees with a more standard measuring system.
I thought at one time Martin did trials and would help fit for folks not near a dealer, do they not do that anymore?
