I have a pair of justin bent rail boots and they are new. They are tight around my calf area. I don't know why they are so slim around the tops because they are wides?! but is there a way to stretch the tops? or ??

Applying a leather conditioner and just wearing them around always stretches mine out. I've also heard of using rubbing alcohol, but I would think that might ruin them. You could also maybe try an Ariat boot tree or a homemade version of something like that.

To stretch the top of a boot I dont know, but I remember in the older days people would split the top of their boots to go over their calfs. And then have them stiched so they would not tear. Sorry not much help here but your thread reminded me of the good old days, lol

They actually make a boot stretcher for the shafts. Some boot stores may have them if you ask they will prob stretch them for you. I know you could also purchase one, I'm not sure how feasible it would be unless you would use it down the road on other pairs.

^^^THIS.....they do make a shaft stretcher. If they are tight, please remember that even if you have the shoe repair shop stretch them, they will shrink back up if you don't wear them a lot. That would be a good reason to buy a set of stretchers yourself. They also sell a "shoe stretch solution" at Walmart and shoe stores. Soak the inside of the shaft liberally and then put the stretcher in or wear them (if you don't have a stretcher).

edited to add: A shoe repair shop can split the seam and insert a small piece of leather too.....not very pretty if you wear with skirts, etc....

I bought some boots that were tight around the top of the boot and the store I bought them from stretched them for me for free.

My daughter has to have Every. Single. Pair. stretched. A couple of pair we bought locally and the store stretched them for us. The rest (she rodeo queens and seriously has over 20 pair of boots) I've learned to do myself. Get the tops really soaked (water). Spray the heck out of them with Leather New or something similar. My answer to boot stretchers is empty fabric softener bottles - the medium sized ones. They are kind of shaped like a calf (not completely round) and you can adjust how much stretch by how far down you shove them. Let them dry, see if they are stretched enough. We have had to do it a couple of times if they aren't worn regularly. Cheap and effective!

You are so smart......lol......another hint that John gives his customers is to leave the "stretchers" (or in your case fabric softener bottles) in the boots when you are not wearing them.

Her "good" or fancy boots we do exactly that. Like gown boots and special ones that only get worn once or twice a year briefly. We do get some funny looks when people see half dozen pairs of boots lined up with Snuggle bottles sticking out!
