I am registering my cropout quarter filly. She has a splash of white up the inside of a hind leg. What color pattern would this be considered? Overo? Otherwise she doesn't have any other paint spots. Thanks

If sire and dam are both registered quarter horses your horse would be an overo. Tobianos have at least one tobiano parent.

With the new rule change I don't think you can. I believe now they have to have atleast one paint parent.

I think it has changed again and you don't need a paint parent from the way I understood it....at least that's what I'm hoping. Previously I thought you could double register but not eligible for the barrel racing incentive money but now I think it's changed for this year. It only makes sense to let them in and benefit the paint breed.

You can register if the horse has no paint parents. It just must have a spot with white skin under the spot a certain size. Can't remember the size--not particularly large

http://press.apha.com/3dissue/2017_Rulebook_Change/issue1/index.html here are registration rule changes.  If I am reading correctly horse will have to be tested to see if it carries a paint gene before it will be eligible for registry.

Those are rule proposals. I didn't read them all but there's a rule requiring a 6 panel genetic test for stallions starting in 2017 breeding year. YaY!!! I'm so glad they have that proposal up for vote. I hope they vote it in.

I saw that.  So I thought the rule changed about registering paints with no paint parent.  Is this not correct? I'm out of the loop on paints since we don't have any this year.

You can register APHA with two AQHA parents if the horse has the required amount of white above the knee. She would be an overo, as tobianos have white across the back.

Has to be a 2" spot. You have to show measurements for proof.

We have a mare with a large belly spot that AQHA deems unsatisfactory characteristics, and she qualifies to be double registered with APHA.

I don't know. I didn't get that far. lol I believe you are right though. I have friends that are paint breeders. They said the rules have changed to allowing cropouts again. BUT the requirements are that the belly spot has to be visible from a standing position. No standing on your head to see it. It also has to be a certain size. It used to be a minimum of 2" from one side to the other.
