I have been on both ends of buying and selling.

Ask to see vet records, from all vets the horse has been to.

You probably know someone in the area maybe you could call them and ask about the persons character.

Someone in the area can give you a little history on the person and the horse or their horses in general.

I think sometimes you have to take a chance.

Location: Oklahoma		I use a Horse Purchase Agreement and the potential buyer is encouraged to schedule a soundness / pre-purchase exam.  I provide a list of OKC area vets and let them know they can ask for a referral from their local vet to an OKC area vet.  Most out of state vets still refer to the list of local vets I recommend.  

I accept cash or wire transfer of funds.
