Blanketing question!

Last time I had to blanket my horses was several months ago.... since then, they've shed quite a bit... anyway, we've been hit hard last 48 hours with hard rain and very gusty winds.. my horses still are without shelter or wind blocks... I went to feed this afternoon and they came up shivering again! It's in the upper 50s though, I'm guessing it's the being wet and the wind gusts hitting them. I threw on their waterproof breathable blankets because I cannot stand to see them shivering. I'm wondering if I should take them off before tonight, while it's still calling for a lot more torrential thunderstorms thru Friday the wind is supposed to die down a little later. I don't want them to get too hot. They do have access to a roundbale. I get chilly when I go outside in this, I throw on a jacket. They started warming up pretty quick after I put blankets on and quit shivering. I miss having a barn!

Can you get some waterproof sheets for them? Just to keep them dry & block the wind....but not overheat them so much?

I ended up taking them off when I got home, they were completely dry and the wind quit... the lows tonight, according to the weather, is 59. I feel that's way too warm to blanket, rain or not, especially with no wind. I plan on purchasing some lighter weight sheets , as the ones I have now are for really cold winters. I will say I'm impressed at how quickly those blankets dried them completely! When my husband gets home this weekend, we are having a shelter discussion! I'd be thrilled with a couple of lean to's out there at this point.
Thank you for the reply!
