Has anyone done this before?  I purchased a almost new trailer last year and now situations have changed and I've been too busy to show much the last year and i'm afraid it will be the same this year.  I only used it a handfull of times last year and was considering renting it out to help justify keeping it as well as help make the payment.  Any tips or advice?

No I haven't done this, nor would I consider it either. Too much risk and too many things that could potentially go wrong.

Have some incredibly good insurance; one to cover damage to your trailer, second damage to anyone or anything that uses your trailer and third anyone or anything your trailer might "hit" while being towed and you could end up being sued for. Be prepared to expect it not to be taken care of as you would; that doesn't mean it won't but just be prepared in case you rent it out and it comes back trashed.

Personally, before I would rent it out, I would sell it and downsize to something affordable. Just too much risk with renting them out.

I agree. Maybe sell it for something smaller. There is so much that can go wrong, and you might end up being out a trailer if something does happen.

I actually went to purchase something smaller from the beginning but my husband had certain "Requirements" for the trailer even though it is mine :P

So we ended up with this 10' SW with hay rack, generator, mangers, hyrd jack, power awning, slide, the whole works.  We did get it for a really good deal though because it was used for 6 months and the old owners upsided to 14' and double slide.

So I hate to sell it when in a year or two i might be able to start really using it and it will be hard to find a trailer like this again.  But trying to justify it for the time being.  It took me 8 months to find this one that fit both our demands and i about went crazy during that time!

ETA i know ppl rent out RV's and stuff like that so was hoping there was some kindof insurance policy written for renting something specfically like that out?

I had a LQ trailer that I sold due to not going enough to spend the night and moving to an area where there are a lot of barrel races close to me.  I purchased a 2-horse GN and love it.  I personally would not rent out a trailer to anyone.  I'm just too picky about letting anyone use my things.

Yes, you would need commercial type insurance. I would assume this would be a higher deductible and very costly.

Also, you might have license issues depending on the weight of the trailer unit as it would than be "commercial".

Good luck!

Not sure I would rent it out. Anytime someone borrows anything of mine it comes back broken, dirty, or not at all. I couldn't imagine renting out my 50k trailer to someone. ha.

Of course, if you are renting it to a reliable friend that signs a contract that states they are responsible for repairs then I guess that could work out. I still lean toward no.
