| So a couple of weeks ago I had to put my favorite horse down. He was an absolutely beautiful thoroughbred stallion who had foundered bad. But I have a mare that I thought would cross really well with him and make a cute appendix baby. So I bred her through a heat cycle and... she didn't take. After the ultrasound, we short cycled her and she came in fairly quickly. I bred her through that second heat cycle then. By that time, my stud Truckin, was pretty bad. So sadly I had to make the decision to put him down. Today was the 16th day since she has last been bred, and it was our ultrasound appointment. I don't know how to feel... she didn't take this time either. :(
I'm not going to keep trying, because I only wanted a baby out of my precious stallion. And she is showing great potential around the pattern. I just...I don't know why it wasn't meant to be with my stud? I loved him so much... would have been so amazing to have a foal out of him. Thank you everyone for letting me vent! I don't really have any horse friends to talk to, do it's nice having you guys :) |

Location: west of East Texas | So sorry. Having to make that final decision is the worst thing about being the owner. It's hard enough when nature takes it course and they pass but even harder when you have to make some kind of decision about it. I have a geriatric gelding that was 'dumped' here, I don't even like him much, he's in his 30s, been on his 'last leg' for 9 years now.... and still I fret over the fact that I might have to make the call. |

 Own It and Move On
Location: The edge of no where | I'm so very sorry. I remember you posting about your stud, it's a tough tough decision (especially when you love them). It would've been pretty cool for you to have a piece of him still around thru the baby. Sometimes when there's nothing more to do, then you've got to make the best call you can for them. Enjoy your mare - go do some fun things on her. Sometimes we look back later and figure out that something we desparately wanted to work out and didn't.....turned into something much better instead. I'm sorry about your stud. |
