Location: Missouri | He is naturally hard mouthed from the start. His teeth have been done. He's very soft sided. Ready to start on barrels and need suggestions on a bit. |

| Simplicity Chain Mouth adjusted correctly and very light hands should help her soften up. She won't be able to brace on it, but you have to remember to reward the slightest try. |

| have you tried draw reins walk around and just ask them to give and trot and askmthem to give. i had a mare i bought as a prospect and she was kinda like that. put them draw riens onmher ask for her tomgive, she got mad and startedmstomping one foot and pick up on her she starting lunging and leaking and broke my draw reims. tied her up went to hardware store and got some rope and just went just started asking her to give, she gave before but she was dull. i did this for about three weeks and she turned out to be the lightest horse and after the three weeks through thos draw reins away. |

Location: MN | I have had good luck with putting a nose band on anything hard mouthed. Combination o-ring, draw bit with a rope nose, sweet six combo. Some just need the slightest tug on their nose to break at the pole and give! |

Location: ND | I won't be popular for saying this but personally I'd go back and work on him until he's soft. No horse is born knowing how to properly give to the bit, some catch on fast & others take a lot of work before they understand. I'm working with my newest horse now, he's a green broke 4 yr old who is hard AND was taught he could get away with not listening by throwing his nose up & flinging his head around. Just a touch of rein pressure & he'd open his mouth, throw his head up & hollow his back out. Him and I are going to be spending a lot of time just walking circles, bending & doing lateral work until he is light & soft through his entire body. It's going to take some time but imo it's worth it to get the foundation solid & correct. |

Location: Missouri | I actually run my little roan in a sweet six with a rope nose band because when I was training her she'd stick her nose out and try to throw her head up. It works really well on her.
This one doesn't throw his head up, he softens after about 10 minutes work, but.......sometimes he'll just grab the bit like a race horse and not stop or listen. So then we go back to working at a trot.
If he gets mad or confused he just sulls up like a little kid, lol. Like nope this is too hard and I'm just not going to do anything, humpf.
But he dosen't booger at anything and he doesn't mind riding off by himself away from other horses or the barn. He's got a quiet disposition and maturity in that respect. |
